oneputt18 Posted October 5, 2016 #27 Share Posted October 5, 2016 We're set here in Broward County, plants furniture etc in garage. House has impact windows. Just hope it is not 2005(Wilma) all over again. Took a direct hit, eyewall passed over our house and we lost part of our roof, neighbors screened in porch broke loose and landed on our flat roof. That plus no power for 11 days. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
eastsider57 Posted October 5, 2016 #28 Share Posted October 5, 2016 We will keep everyone in our prayers during this tough time. Hopefully the storm turns east and stays out of harms way. Jeff and Wendy

LisaAtlCruiser Posted October 6, 2016 #32 Share Posted October 6, 2016 First I am wishing Andy and everyone in Florida safety. Second I hope for minimal or no property damage. I know you will, but please follow the recommendations of authorities. No property is worth your life or endangering others lives who will try to rescue you. A Sixth? Posted October 6, 2016 #33 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Hang on down there. Not to be a Donnie Downer but a few models have the hurricane doing a loop and hitting Florida again next week. :(
Rare ReneeFLL Posted October 6, 2016 #34 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Hang on down there. Not to be a Donnie Downer but a few models have the hurricane doing a loop and hitting Florida again next week. :( I also saw that on TV. That's just crazy. Hoping it just goes out to sea and dies down. Worked all day today bringing in patio furniture, removing decorations from tiki hut, securing boat, clearing off the pool deck, picking up everything possible and anything else we can think of. It looks like Ft. Lauderdale will be on the outer bands but you can never be to safe. Wishing everyone stays safe and has as little damage as possible but hopefully none. Orator Posted October 7, 2016 #37 Share Posted October 7, 2016 We dodged a bullet! No more than a Tropical storm at our place. Power stayed on and trees upright. My thoughts and prayers are with those to the North. Be safe.

My thoughts and prayers are with those to the North. Be safe. So pleased for you, Orator. We are following the storm closely over the pond by picking up the weather channel and webcams we normally use to watch cruise ships arrive and depart. Heartbreaking to see the news unfold... Thinking of all of you still in danger.

So glad we lucked out with this strong storm.
Andy Posted October 7, 2016 Author #40 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Hi Everyone, Just wanted to advise that Mom & I are fine. Tons of brief power outages last night, but power was quickly restored. From all accounts, Hurricane Matthew made a last minute turn to the East, which made ALL the difference for us. Our thoughts and prayers remain for those to the North of us, who remain in the path. Please keep us posted. My sincere thanks to everyone for your concern.

Jazzbo Posted October 7, 2016 #43 Share Posted October 7, 2016 We were pleasantly surprised to wake up early this morning with power, turned on the TV and found out that Matthew had taken a wobble to the right. We are close to the end of rain and 30-50 mph winds in Orlando. Coastal Brevard County and Volusia County took a rough hit, and St. Augustine is experiencing a nasty storm surge right now from the intracoastal. Hoping folks up there stay safe. Rare Lois R Posted October 8, 2016 #45 Share Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) Thankfully I am ok:)....my sister lives here too and I went to her place and we stayed together last night.......I am back home this morning. We are VERY lucky.......we both have electric and no damage to either of our places. (we only live about 10 minutes from one another). Many areas of town got hit VERY HARD.......if anyone knows our beach area? Jacksonville Beach Pier was rebuilt in 2004 and now part of the pier is gone:(.......and many others around the city have no electric......and have seen many photos of trees fallen onto/into homes/cars, etc....... It will take a while to assess all the damage....... Wishing all the folks up in Charleston and those areas all the best....looks like Matthew is on his way up there:( Edited October 8, 2016 by Lois R
ChucktownSteve Posted October 8, 2016 #46 Share Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) Charleston is now on the back side of Matthew which means we're getting the strongest winds so far with hurricane force winds for the next four hours or so. Fortunately low tide was at 7:20 this morning and high tide isn't until 1:45pm. Charleston has had over 10" in the last 24 hrs. Since Matthew has dropped to a cat 1, our wind gusts to 87mph will last until about noon or 1pm. There is area flooding but since Charleston is in the Lowcountry, we usually get flooding in heavy rain storms. This is just much more widespread. We still have power, obviously, but about 1/4th of the county is without. EMS has stopped all service.
