Pavovsky Posted October 10, 2016 #27 Share Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) Isn't VAT always supposed to be "hidden" in the price of the product? Not sure about Spanish / EU law on this, but all of my EU customers at work build the VAT into the final price of the product and don't add it on like we do sales tax in North America. Yes it should be included within the price. I made that point to Celebrity. I should add that afterwards there was a note on VAT in the daily. clmom Posted October 10, 2016 Author #28 Share Posted October 10, 2016 Yes it should be included within the price. I made that point to Celebrity. I should add that afterwards there was a note on VAT in the daily. After reading all these replies, I went back to my saved "dailies" and re-read each one for the VAT info. There was one mention, on our embarkation day of the Spanish VAT but thereafter, not a word. This is what is written: "Spanish VAT On January 1st, 2010, Spain adopted a "use or enjoyment" rule for determining when restaurant and catering services are taxable. Consequently, we are required to collect a 10% Spanish VAT (Value Added Tax) on all Bar sales while the vessel is within 12 miles of territorial Spanish waters and while calling in Spanish ports. The VAT will be added to the total amount of the sale." So, does "Bar sales" also cover "dining packages" or just liquid refreshments? If you had a pre-paid drink package or had upgraded your drink package while aboard, were you supposed to be assessed the extra 10% VAT every time you ordered a drink while within the 12 mile guideline stated above?
