In port transportation for 1 year old

I am taking my 1yo son on the Oasis of the Seas in March. He's been on a cruise already and did very well (NCL Getaway) however in most of those ports we could walk somewhere and enjoy the day, on this itinerary, we will go to St Thomas and St Maarten, which will require some form of transportation to get to where we'd like to go.

 

Those of you that have cruised with young children, do you bring a car seat? From my experience, the St Thomas shuttles to Magens Bay have no way of strapping in a car seat so not sure what people do there, and in St Maarten, would need a cab to get over to Maho Beach (he's going to love the planes.....ill be honest, I dont mind it either)

We bring a car seat stroller for my grandson but my DD uses her baby sling strap/wrap when going on shore excursion.. Nothing to worry on uneven surface, step stairs and beach sand.

I'm checking into the same situation for St Thomas with a 2 year old. On our previous cruise we took a lightweight car seat, but it's a pain to haul around.

When my kids were young, we had a portable travel car seat that was very light and easy, so we were in compliance with carseat laws where ever we were traveling.
