Platinum gift on the Magic

Just back from a very nice 8 day cruise on the Magic. Figured we would get the croc but instead we got the strangest gift.

It came in a very nice wooden box and inside was 12 round things and 12 envelopes. At first thought they were coasters.

Turned out it was stationary but were a four inch round circle with picture of unnamed island on one side and other side blank with rather thin envelopes.

Also came with a short pen with Carnival written on it.

Figured we had absolutely no use for it so went to guest service to see if we could get a sub and they said no in no uncertain terms.

Only use we could find for the stationary was last night we put gifts inside envelopes with short notes of thanks for crew and tossed the rest.

Many people were talking about how this gift was about as pathetic as they could get. Even the crocs would be better. Or not.

The cruise itself though was great.

At least it was in a wooden box that you could use to put things in. :) Sounds better than the Croc Hats that I left in our cabin.

A somewhat funny story. On our last cruise we received the Croc hats. I was happy that they at least had fabric on the front, interior liner, to absorb perspiration but they still were something we would never wear. I tried to give them away and no one wanted them so I put them in the garbage can in our room. I did this twice and both times the cabin steward took them out and set them on the sofa. :) They stayed in the cabin when we left.

Take care,

Mike

That is funny

The box had very little room inside only enough for stationary and envelope so put the boxes in trash with leftover stationary. Pens we did take home.

Thought of giving this away but figured nobody would want them and would insult our tablemates.

Was hoping for usb charger that would have been useful.

One other thing I will mention. Casino had some sort of promotion with land based casinos for a wheel of fortune slot tournament.

Understand they gave away 375 cabins mostly balconies to people who generally had not cruised before. One of our tablemates got a very nice balcony on 9.

Tournament gave away $ 100,000 we understand and even after never saw such a crowded casino with so many machines being used. Casino must have earned the cost of the tourney back numerous times

Based on the conversations in our roll call here, I already suspected many of the cruisers would be casino people. There were several references to it there. And yes, it was crowded a lot, which is fine with me, couldn't care less, never went there except to walk through (although I tried not to, nasty with the amount of smoke!).

And our friends thought the wooden box was cute. I guess, not being at that level, it didn't matter to me. We're at gold, probably will be there for awhile, and we were happy with our free water and drink ;) I'm sure there have been many gifts over the years with a variety of responses.

Is it the round wooden box? I got one of those as a trade in for the visor on my first leg of recent Vista cruise with VIFP Club on top. On the 2nd leg, I was left a visor and another box with Vista Inaugural Season on top. Now I could have the order which I received the boxes reversed, but I think they are a perfect size for storing odds and ends...jewelry, loose coins, misc. electronic charge cords. Actually, I can think of lots of things to put in them.

Luckily on the TA leg, I did get the USB charger.

I make jewelry and I am also a crafter, so I plan on decorating the top of the VIFP one.

It was the round wooden box. Not that much room to hold stuff so it didnt appeal to us

There was a huge amount of smoke coming from casino more than I ever remember.

Most gifts have been useful but lately their usefullness has gone downhill.

I just got off the Dream and we got a night light with Carnival VIFP on the top. It's one of the nicest gifts we have received. It will be put to good use.

We got the croc visors on the Vista and tried to trade them in for something else. They gave us drink coupons, but, wouldn't take the visors back. They know how awful the visors are. :) On the TA, we got the USB charger, I was very happy not to get the visors again.

Would have been happy to trade for drink coupons or just about anything but the guy at guest services just said this is what we have.

We were on the same cruise. We had sailed on Freedom 2 weeks earlier and got the lovely croc visors...we gave them away to 2 cute little kids who LOVED them! I did go to GS and ask about trading them but was told there was nothing else but they assured me that our Magic Cruise we would b getting the USB chargers . So, I was disappointed in the wooden stationary gifts....and GS told me they had Croc Visors if I wanted to substitute ...ahhhaaa....so I've decided I can laminate the little circular cards and turn them into coasters and maybe use the wooden boxes for jewelry or knock knacks! Oh well....NO big deal....

Interesting, wonder why they offered you the visors and to me they said sorry that is all we had.

They don't just give out the drink coupons, you have to ask for them. They don't always give them out though. We put those coupons to good use.

At least it was in a wooden box that you could use to put things in. :) Sounds better than the Croc Hats that I left in our cabin.

We don't criuse for the Platinum gift (neither does anyone else) but the croc hats are awful. I tried to give them to a couple of kids and they gave them back.

Square opening in box about 3 x 3 and box was about 12 inches in diameter so it would not hold very much at all.

I also got the ugly croc visor, took it down to guest services and made them give me 2 Tervis tumblers. Granted I was the only Platinum guest and really only deserved one. They made a big mistake by calling my cabin to ask how it was going, so when I asked for 2, they gave in. Thanks for the great cups!! That visor was hideous.
