platinum/diamond party

We have been to about 5 of the new style parties and have greatly enjoyed them.

They have always held it in the rear lounge on Conquest and Dream class ships which gives us plenty of room to move around and socialize and meet the crew and socialize with other passengers.

This past week on the Magic they held it in the main lounge. Basically everyone took seats and sat there for entire party and it was pretty boring and felt like old style party when golds were invited.

Has anyone experience this on other Carnival ships?

Our recent Magic cruise it was held in the theatre. Not ideal for mingling. Oh well, we got some good sushi. And I like they have the games now. Much better than watching them give a bottle of champagne to the most frequent cruiser, who probably has quite a stash of champagne by now.

Had the guessing number of stuff games since they started the revised party.

Most traveled person did get something but didnt notice what it was.

It must of been devastating having too mix with golds, I hope you had time to take a shower before you ate

I know right. Whats next golds are only allowed to eat platinums left overs ? Or only allowed to be out of our cabins after all of them are asleep. Luckily we can all just simply buy our way to platinum. And here i was worried

On both Sunshine cruises it was in the theatre. The Valor was in the rear lounge. It was more engaging, but a little more difficult to move around than the theater.

Washing your hands seemed to work. A shower is a little over the top. I do have to admit that the parties have been a lot more fun without those gold people!

OK, I'll answer you without sarcasm. We've been to 4-5 of them since the change and they are smaller, different and shorter. Also, on the last sea day just prior to dinner. All of ours have been in the aft lounge, where the comedy club is. My memories for this year are based on the Magic, Liberty and Freedom. The Glory is next, followed by the Valor.

What we noticed is the galvanized tub full of beer when you walk in, allowin the wait staff to tend to mixed drinks.

Also, the cruise directors were moving around the room, and the captain and staff have been on about half of them. We loved talking to Frankie on the Liberty in September, but he's the only one that "worked the room" as one would say. My wife won the baby photos challenge, and she's the proud owner of an award to display next to the ship on a stick I won.

Also, they raced through the video, it seems much shorter and for the snapshot(s) I have seen less interaction from Carnival on what's coming. We were aboard when the new ships were announced and no one knew anything about them.

I really liked the party on a sail away from port day, but so far the last sea day seems to be the norm.

All of them had the obligatory officers introduction, and most of them bailed once they left the stage.

I'm rambling, hope that's a observation you were asking about.

Only been to the parties on the Miracle. They held down in the comedy lounge. On our first Journeys cruise platinums/diamonds were separated into three parties. Plenty of food and drink. Three games, some funny awards-most traveled, latest booked, youngest platinum etc. Might have been a Carnival Commercial.

On our Hawaii Journeys cruise a few weeks ago we never received an invite :(. Heard that it was held in the theatre, extremely hard to get drinks. Little easier to get food. No games, but did hand out a few awards. They did show the Carnival Commercial.

For those of you who thought I didnt want to associate with golds guess I should explain why I started this.

Just wanted to know how common it was to hold the new party in the main lounge as opposed to the comedy club. Much nicer in the comedy club where you could move around and talk to others.

Nothing more nothing less.

Sorry Carnival pulled the rug out from under people. To me it was more fun the old way. But just remember Plats didn't do this to you Carnival did. Their rules ,their baby. The party is just an OK thing with me . I won the pick the ships three times now and had my picture taken and was told we would get a copy sent to the room. Never received one yet :D.

The party has become a bunch of OF's sitting in a room gulping down drinks. It has become a practiced performance for the staff and they cant wait until it's over.

Oh i understand carnival changed it on their end but they most certainly didnt change how way too many platinums present themselves or dismiss golds, blues and reds as unworthy to cruise with them.

It brings to mind in the movie titanic how the uppity rich people treated the third class and steerage.

Seriously people it a BS achievement, im pretty close to becoming plat myself but im really curious if carnival jams the stick up your butt or you have to do it yourself ?

Or maybe carnival puts something in those drinks to get those people to act so snobish.

People have to remember this is carnival the fun ship not the QE2.

We are all cruisers , lets be thankful not hateful.

Just wanted to say that I was on the Splendor about 3 weeks ago and while the party was held in the aft lounge 5, it was the worst one since the changeover plan. The place was packed. We sat near the front and off to the side. Repeatedly, we saw waiters come out of the side door near us, with trays full of appetizers and drinks, and walked right past us. We had one appetizer and one drink each. It exactly reminded me of the old style party, with some of the games added. I think in this case there were too many people and not enough servers, and they were overworked.

Last party we attended you would have thought they were handing out gold and platinum bars. The couple infront of us chased down the servers for drinks and appetizers, when they left there were plates of untouched food and 3 tables worth of barely touched drinks. Do people forget theres unlimited food everwhere you look on the ship no reason to hoard it and waste it.

The Miracle 15 day Hawaii, recently we cruised, was rough. Held in main lounge, it was very difficult to get even one drink. A small number of servers were kept busy with special orders. Not enough help. A couple of glasses of wine for me and a few beer for DH are plenty. Anyway, not much fun. Some even became ugly and chanted.:(

When the number invited is large, the front lounge is usually needed. Seems the numbers invited have been much less than the attendees.

We will still attend; we enjoy visiting with the officers and crew.

It is not nearly as much fun as it used to be. Captain's Diamond Party is still great fun!

I do agree and see this as well. This past cruise we had people beside us that would not even look or speak to us even though we sat right beside them. When they request all Platinum's stand they did and waved then sitting back down we received the stink eye. Then Diamonds were called to the stage to be recognized. On our return back to our seat they wanted to see my wife's Diamond card as if in to make sure . What she didn't know was that I read lips. Her comments toward her husband was " can't believe those people are Diamond ". :D

Some peoples kids ;).

Don't worry. There are plenty of us that know exactly what your post meant. :) Sorry to see that some others read into it to feed their own agendas.

We were on Magic last month and that was the first time that we've attended the P/D guest party back in the main showroom since the change. I didn't care for it either as people were sitting in the seats and not mingling as they do in the lounge environment.

I can agree about the agenda issue of some posters..... the attitude consistently seems to be with the golds saying the same about those who can attend, time to move on. Carnival had to make a change and the new party I thought was more interesting and fun than the old with lots of interaction.

I'll be Platinum next year and looking forward to the perks...BTW...JH had mentioned they were looking at the loyalty categories...has anything else been announced that's different from the current loyalty program? I hope it doesn't get changed when I'm so close to achieving Platinum.

This whole thread really amuses me. I'm platinum and well on my way to diamond, and I've only ever been to one of these "parties." I usually have either Cheers or Drinks on Us in the casino, and thus see little value in exploring what else this "party" might hold.

I do however find it entertaining reading others comments on the VIFP parties. Keep 'em coming. :-)

....as long as your entertained, than we will all feel fulfilled.... Maybe the value of the party goes beyond a few free drinks...

He has talked on and off that they are looking into it but typically takes forever to make a change and last time just took stuff away from platinum and diamond.
