don't-use-real-name Posted January 29, 2017 #1301 Share Posted January 29, 2017 FYI Before the dry dock upgrading Cagney's was the Breakfast and Lunch spot for suite guests. Now Moderno has moved from deck 8 to deck 13 and replaced the Star Bar and Breakfast and Lunch formerly at Cagney's. The port side of Moderno's new location was an overflow for Cagney's and NCL had a partition separating the Star Bar from the overflow area. The Star Bar pre-dry-dock was the place where the Meet & Greets parties were held. Now M&Gs are in Le Bistro on deck 6. Moderno and Cagney's share a Galley (Kitchen) in the aft side of Cagney's! The view from Moderno is more complimentary than that of Cagney's IMHO ! For Moderno it was a step up from its former location which until 4 PM was used as convertible space overflow from the Blue Lagoon (now O'Sheehans) and card and game playing area. Used to play card games there until rousted out to prep Moderno's for evening dining ! There was frequent conflict with the Atrium Bar Stage on deck 7 when an entertaining group lead to overflow space needed even to deck 9 the former location of the Internet Lounge. The new post dry-dock upgrading seems to work making better use of the space ! BUT the acoustics in the Atrium need to be reworked - often conversation at guest services and anywhere in the Atrium is difficult. All for the better probably ?! Le Bistro and La Cucina exchanged places - The 5'O Clock Bar or Pearly Kings (Sports Bar) was made into a Wine Bar - The aft Port portion of the Buffet was turned in a Mexican restaurant Los Lobos - * Accessible from aft elevators deck 12 or starboard side aft of the Buffet. The Teppenaki doubled in size - Internet Lounge moved to deck 7 aft starboard freeing up more entertaining space on deck 9 for shows and Atrium activities - also the photo shop archives have been replaced with Video screens instead of ugly wall partitions The MDRs are still handicap ill functional - MDRs are on deck 6 have to use the aft elevators for the Ventian MDR - for the Aqua MDR either of the two forward elevators, Caution deck 6 forward is the Casino and a smoking hazard zone * also a wallet reduction area ! And frequently the starving artists have their fare reducing the much needed space in the passage ways for movement . The making of Post Dry Dock NCL DAWN version 101 - there is more but by this time you'al are probably tired of details and need drink - I do ! TheDougOut Posted January 30, 2017 Author #1304 Share Posted January 30, 2017 looking for ship to meet the needs of a two adults in the their mid 40s, mid 70s and 16 and 14 year old teens. will the dawn meet all their needs?? That's a similar age breakdown that we had for our group trip on the Breakaway, and everyone had a great time. For multigenerational gatherings, so long as everyone is open and adventurous, I think the larger ships (Breakaway, Getaway, Escape) work best because of the variety of offerings available. More often than not, you'll hear the suggestion that the larger ships are better suited for teens. Having said that, not everyone has the same needs or expectations, so it's difficult to make a concrete rule as to what's best.
Esv104 Posted January 31, 2017 #1305 Share Posted January 31, 2017 I have UDP and was told that Los Lobos is NOT included. Is that true? Thought the dining packages included that. Thanks.

TheDougOut Posted February 1, 2017 Author #1307 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Then I just called same number again and they said it WAS included. You have the unlimited UDP? I assume it's covered, as we used our SDP twice there. Enjoy! It's a great venue.
Esv104 Posted February 1, 2017 #1308 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Booked 2 years ago. Got old UDP for family of 5 included with all the other stuff included. Too good a deal to not book in 2015! Just don't like conflicting answers from agents (concierge #).
hawkeyetlse Posted February 1, 2017 #1309 Share Posted February 1, 2017 I wouldn't necessarily blame them for not having their answers straight. All they can do is look up the terms of the UDP, which NCL stopped updating in 2015. Los Lobos didn't exist yet, so the terms don't say either way if it's included or not. What they should say at that point is "Sorry, I don't seem to have that information, let me find someone who actually knows and get back to you". Instead, they tend to make up an answer… There must be very few people still cruising with the UDP, so I think they now treat it the same as the SDP, only with unlimited meals. So I think they'll let you use it at Los Lobos, just like you can use the SDP there. If they say no, I would escalate it to the restaurant manager or food & beverage director and politely ask if they can get you in.
Esv104 Posted February 1, 2017 #1310 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Good plan. I think it will be fine. One way or another, I guarantee I'll be full before I go to sleep! Thanks.
brookie848 Posted February 1, 2017 #1311 Share Posted February 1, 2017 Doug -- we just booked your cabin for one of the Southern Caribbean itineraries in November. We got in under the wire to take advantage of the extra point for booking 9 months out. My husband wanted to visit different ports, plus he gets to go back to St. Maarten, which he loves. This will be our first time on a non-mega ship. I'm looking forward to the experience. Thanks again for all of your great photos, videos and information! CuriousBill Posted February 2, 2017 #1312 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Amazing review!! While reading this everyday, I had to go back and read your escape review. Excellent!! We board the Dawn in February and this really got me excited to go. Booked Maya chan!!! LIttle French key in roatan and a food tour in Cozumel. Without your review we were just going to walk the beach in Costa Maya. Still Dreaming - I saw that you may be on the same cruise as us leaving February 5th! You mentioned that you will be doing a food tour in Cozumel? This is something we may enjoy. I looked for this both on NCL and on other Cruise Critic threads and saw no mention of something like this. Do you mind providing details? TIA
ericande Posted February 2, 2017 #1313 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Thanks for the great review Doug. Largely due to this review and the upcoming changes in the Latitudes program, my wife and I are now booked on the Dawn for a 7-day Western Caribbean (from Tampa) in March '18 and back-2-back 7-day Southern Caribbean (from San Juan) in March '19. Only ever cruised on bigger ships (Epic and Getaway) and are looking forward to checking out the Dawn.

samrothstein Posted February 13, 2017 #1315 Share Posted February 13, 2017 I stumbled across this review while doing some snooping around for a friend that's on the Dawn in a couple weeks (gotta live vicariously through someone in this gloomy Chicago weather!). This awesome review has made me rethink my current plan of vacationing in St Croix this fall, and consider a cruise. You should seriously be paid or compensated for these reviews. I wonder if there was a spike in bookings and upsells during your week... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
marynjohn Posted February 14, 2017 #1316 Share Posted February 14, 2017 6am flights are more attractive at the time of booking. We're off to the Big Easy, and then boarding the Dawn on Sunday. This is a special trip for us - returning to the ship that introduced us to NCL back in 2010. More to come. Posting live from the Dawn 11/27. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I LOVE that first line. Been there. I'm John and I sent this message.
Butterz Posted February 24, 2017 #1317 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Helpful hint: unless you have large cargo containers that require transport via ship, don't enter "Port of New Orleans" as your intended Uber destination. U-turn. Sent from my iPhone using Forums So what would you recommend to put in as your drop off?

Seany527 Posted March 4, 2017 #1322 Share Posted March 4, 2017 360 View of Los Lobos...https://theta360.com/s/nPu9jmBoRI7WBdQNnREza7g1o Sent from my iPhone using Forums Somewhat off topic, but your 360 photos are great. From my research it says that you must have 3g or 4g to upload a picture to their site, even when a wifi connection is available. Is that true or am I confused? Also, can you text the picture to someone or must they view the photo on the theta site if I choose not to upload to fb?

Interesting - that very well may be true for posting photos to the theta 360 site. I don't recall the specifics, but I know there were sometimes when it simply didn't work. The photos can be sent or embedded anywhere - they'll just look "unrolled" and flattened. I'll post a sample here...

Seany527 Posted March 4, 2017 #1325 Share Posted March 4, 2017 I'm using a theta 360 camera and then an app called RollWorld. I really have no idea what I'm doing - most of my 360s aren't looking all that great. Sent from my iPhone using Forums They look great! I went and bought the camera to use for my cruise next week.
