Almaplena vs Maya Chan

Looking for a all inclusive day resort while in port for our cruise. Most seem to recommend Maya Chan but Almaplena sounds like it is really nice with clearer water and better snorkeling than Maya Chan.

What are the major differences and if you have been to both which would recommend for the overall quality of the experience?

Find a post by mitsugirly and read the reviews of both in the links in her signature. Other than potential for water to be a little clearer in Almaplena, I don't think there's a whole lot of difference in the snorkeling conditions. Neither have iron shore. Almaplena accepts fewer day guests, but it's not like Maya Chan is teeming with people. Both have great food, good loungers, good service, etc.

Reviews in my signature with links to pictures as well.

The main difference I found would be the water. Maya Chan would be perfect if there just wasn't the brown icky water and that happens to be where they are located and nothing can be done about it. Almaplena has crystal blue, beautiful water.

Snorkeling at Maya Chan is pretty much zilch from the beach and you have to take a kayak out to snorkel. From Almaplena, you can swim from the beach to snorkel.

The food is amazing at Maya Chan and the people there are great. The couple at Almaplena, very nice and friendly.

Almaplena is a very relaxing place and you are kind of just there as if you are on a deserted spot in the Caribbean. At Maya Chan, they have activities going on, like sand golf and so on.
