czrunner Posted January 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Is coffee available at meals in the restaurants and is it good (or at least acceptable)? What is the price of coffee or specialty coffees at the Promenade Cafe? We will be on the Inspiration in a couple of weeks, and there is no mention of coffee (or a coffee card similar to what Princess offers) on the Carnival website. trvlgirlmq Posted January 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2017 There is free coffee at the buffet and the sit down meals offered in the MDR. It's not the best but for a week I can manage it. I don't know the prices for the pay coffee. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
cb at sea Posted January 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2017 I think the coffee in the dining room and room service is much better than in the buffet...not sure why!
coevan Posted January 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2017 We get room service coffee every day and it very acceptable. We start everyday with a knock on the door, coffee, OJ, fruit and danish.
Rare mexicobob Posted January 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2017 If I remember correctly, specialty coffees were similar in price to Starbucks.
Micahs Grandad Posted January 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Coffee in DR and lido is barely acceptable but much better than it used to be
jimmyvegas29 Posted January 9, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Its acceptable. If you like it hot i feel it easier to accept. I drink iced coffee black and id honestly be fine with there coffee if they would chill some for me. But having to keep icing down hot coffee over ice and having it watered down sucks. So this next cruise ill be bringing some cans of black coffee. The prices for the espresso and other specialty coffees are comparable to starbucks as someone previously mentioned. tango55 Posted January 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2017 the coffee in the buffet is strong and bitter.don't drink coffee after the morning.i bring now a good brand of instant coffee.it's not perfect but it does taste better to me.21 days on a b2b triumph journey cruise from Galveston.only complaints were loud banging in the night and dried out and too salty guy's burger and fries.for us it has gone downhill big time.my opinion
joeyancho Posted January 9, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) It's horrible. My local gas station has better coffee Edited January 9, 2017 by joeyancho
BahamaMama1214 Posted January 9, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Isn't the specialty coffee included on the cheers program now? So if you're going that route you don't need to worry about the cost per drink!
dolfndreams Posted January 9, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Not great, my solution to the buffet bitter coffee is a cup of hot chocolate combined with coffee. Makes it much better even when adding more coffee to my travel mug through the morning. Just needs that bit of sweetness.
Rare crewsweeper Posted January 9, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Both Lido and MDRs use the same type of coffee. Bitterness is from the strength of the coffee (amount of water in pot) and the roast. Folgers or Maxwell House, it ain't (and that's good thing, IMO). Neither is it *$. Have heard it's a commercial blend from Lavazza, but not positive on that. Couldn't tell from bags being used to start a pot. In the coffee bar and in the Steakhouse they use a slightly better grade of beans and a different roast from Lavazza. You can buy it in your grocery store (Publix in FL carries it). Used to carry on *$ Vivas until they switched to the current blend. An Americano from the coffee bar will get you going early. A cappuccino mid morning will carry you through assuming you're willing to wait in line with the Italian officers on board.
coxter Posted January 9, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Coffee in buffet is strong. I use 1/4 hot water 3/4 coffee.
cloudninecat Posted January 10, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 10, 2017 If I recall correctly the specialty coffees were $3.50 plus $0.50 for any flavorings. The regular coffee is so so. Specialty coffees are covered under the cheers program.
JMAE Posted January 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Isn't the specialty coffee included on the cheers program now? So if you're going that route you don't need to worry about the cost per drink! I believe you are correct regarding the cheers program, unless it has been changed. Geebee8 Posted January 10, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 10, 2017 I am a big coffee drinker and cannot choke down the stuff from the buffet at all but I am a $bux groupie (but only drink the drip coffee, not the foo foo stuff). On the first morning, I will go to the coffee bar (there is one outside of the casino typically and a small one outside of the Lido dining as well), purchase their travel mug for $20 (decent quality but doesn't fit under the Keurig we have at home) and get a punch card. After 7 drinks, you get a free one. I will use the travel mug for the the rest of the cruise as it keeps the coffee hotter longer and cold stuff colder so it goes on deck with us filled with ice as well. Have a great trip!!!
