stoneman56 Posted January 21, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Listen this is the Daily Mail we are talking about here. In the UK it ranks lower than The Sun for getting stories wrong. Probably never happened, some scoop from the rag that people here would only use to wipe there backsides with usually just make stuff up.
Two Wheels Only Posted January 21, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) Yes, I would, and I have 14 and 15 year old daughters. If one of them somehow managed to be in a bar, lied about her age, and had sex with a 23 year man, I would not press charges. Again, not knowing Bahamian law but in the US, the state (not the parent) would be pressing charges. The mom knew her son didn't belong in the casino, and his being there gave the impression that he was 18+. The boy being in the casino doesn't relieve the responsibility of the 23 year-old. The 15 year-old drinking a screwdriver (or any alcohol, as many assume) doesn't get the 23 year-old "off the hook", either. A good defense attorney would probably beat this case but it isn't as simple as "...he looked 18...." Lido_Deck Posted January 21, 2017 #28 Share Posted January 21, 2017 To even hint that a teen drinking alcohol is in the same universe of criminal activity as sexual assault is the dumbest thing I have ever read on these boards and that is saying something. Even if the child's mom, and yes he is a child, was holding him down and giving him beer funnels, that would in NO WAY mean that she shouldn't be outraged enough to call the police if she suspects he was sexually assaulted. In other words, him drinking changes nothing. Good grief. No one knows all the details so judging the mom without more facts is ridiculous, but I understand that generally doesn't matter for busy bodies. His mother allowing him to drink is neglect and endangering the welfare of a child. That is the issue, not sex.
Lido_Deck Posted January 21, 2017 #29 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Note that this quote is made by the defendant's mother who was not even on the ship. Neither was the media or the Bahamian Police.

beerman2 Posted January 21, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Mom was supposedly in the casino with Her underaged son. Mom should have had more supervision of her 15 yr. old son then. Son lied about age and was certainly engaged in the situation. 23 yr. old woman believing HE was 18 resulting in supposedly having sex with him. There is plenty of blame for all parties involved. Is it right for a 23 yr. old to have sex with a 15 yr. old , I'm pretty sure we all know the answer to that. NO Was it right for the 15 yr. old to portray himself as an 18 yr. old. NO At 15 though HE knows about the birds and the bees. Mom should have been paying attention to her minor child in that situation, it isn't like he was hanging with a group of kids. Rare electro Posted January 21, 2017 #34 Share Posted January 21, 2017 And nowhere did it say he wasn't. the is not a valid argument. the article also didn't say he wasn't riding a unicycle so I should assume he was? Makes no sense at all. Why it would state something he wasn't doing?
excitedtocruise Posted January 21, 2017 #35 Share Posted January 21, 2017 A case of really poor judgment all the way around. For those of us with teenagers and 20 something kids who cruise (girls and boys), a learning moment.

nissach Posted January 21, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Guests under 18 should not be allowed in areas that are considered bars where alcohol is served period! There were bad decisions all around...mother letting her 15 yr old son hang out in the bar, drinking or not, him allegedly lying about his age, the 23 yr old and the 15 yr old deciding to have sex in a bathroom! One bad decision after another unfortunately!

I agree totally with you...kids of any age can pretty much go anywhere on the ship... to refill their sodas, just walk through or hang out a while etc. I just think bars are not the place for kids to be. Have not been on has many cruises as you....7 on 2 lines, but I too have never seen kids told to leave any bar area.

Halifax Dude Posted January 21, 2017 #43 Share Posted January 21, 2017 This is the biggest non-story of all time. So, a 15-year-old kid nailed a 23-year-old woman while lying about his age? In the grand pantheon of society, this is no big deal. The girl wasn't his teacher. She wasn't his bible study coach. She was in a casino - obviously horny (no crime here) - and came upon a seemingly willing counterpart. I can assure you, the lad is no victim. His mother is simply a nutjob. If the mother and son are not to blame, then that opens the possibility that it could happen to any child and that is something parents don't what to believe. It is too hard to think this could happen to my child.
Lookingforfacts Posted January 21, 2017 #45 Share Posted January 21, 2017 The kid was hanging out in an adult area, looks 18 and said he was 18. The age of consent in the Bahamas is 16. The woman is in jail because the kid was 15, had he reached his 16th birthday the 23 year old wouldn't be in jail. Posters seem to think the magic age is 18. The kid said he was 18 which gave the "seducer" 2 year of age fudging. Nothing would have happened if the kids mother hadn't complained. I don't know if the kid was drinking. Hanging out with a 23 year old at a bar. Certainly plausible the 23 year old ordered the drinks. Can't you generally get 2 adult drinks at once on the booze plan? It doesn't really matter if the kid was drinking. The 23 year old is in (probably serious) trouble because she had sex with a teenager who was short of his 16th birthday.
