butterflycruise Posted February 8, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2017 HI everyone, we will be flying into FLL and sailing out of POM the next day. Thinking of renting a car at FLL for the day. Anyone done this and returned Miami airport. Is there a free shuttle from car rental at airport to the port? Does this seem like a good plan? Rare crewsweeper Posted February 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2017 Why not look at SAS or other shuttle companies that can pick you up at your hotel and drop you right at the cruise port? Are you staying away from the airport at FLL or heading to somewhere you'll need a car to get to, or just renting the car to drive to POM? There are a couple of rental agencies with down town lots and shuttles to cruise port. Enterprise is one. Closer than the airport. From the airport I think you have to take a taxi or Uber versus the rental car shuttle. So that adds more time in dropping off the car and then catching a taxi. Taxis are $25 or so. JohninDC Posted February 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2017 National, Alamo, Thrifty and Enterprise offer free shuttles between POM and their MIA airport location. If you get a good deal from someone else a taxi to POM from MIA is $27+tip or under $20 in an Uber As mentioned above, Hertz, Avis, Alamo and some others have offices in downtown Miami, close to POM - about A $12 cab if they do not shuttle. Ernie G Posted February 9, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2017 (edited) We have rented a car at FLL and dropped it at MIA prior to boarding the cruise. We are sailing on Celebrity Equinox on 5/26 out of POM and have a car rented in FLL for $59 w/fees and will be dropping it at the Budget counter that is actually at the POM. They offer a shuttle to the cruise terminal. We just want flexibility. We used SAS in December and it worked well too. Edited February 9, 2017 by Ernie G Added more i nfo. JohninDC Posted February 9, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2017 Budget is not "at POM", but close by in downtown Miami - I believe it is next to the Avis location. A $10+ cab ride if they do not shuttle.
RC Dancers Posted February 9, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2017 We have rented cars at FLL and dropped off at MIA then taken the shuttle to the port. It works out fine. The thing you have to consider is parking in Miami if you are staying overnight. Hotel valets can be pricey. I would recommend the Sun Pass add on for your rental car to use the Express lanes.
