danielundecided Posted February 13, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2017 I've read about the Oriana refit and a question's come to mind - what exactly do they change during a refit? Is it just the carpets, new beds, chairs etc? Dan Sent from my iPhone using Forums
BrianI Posted February 13, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2017 The main work is the dry docking. With the ship out of the water the bottom can be cleaned and repainted. Work can also be done on the propellers and thrusters. On Aurora two years ago the buffet area was totally gutted and a new one installed. Also the library was moved and replaced by a curry restaurant and the Cafe Bordeaux changed to a Glass House. Some new cabins added. New soft furnishings installed where necessary but often there are changed with the ship in service. Brian

majortom10 Posted February 13, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 13, 2017 Where do they do the refits? Is it in the UK No because no shipyard in the UK has the knowledge or capacity or workforce to do it. They are done at various shipyards I believe Oriana was in Germany where she was built other cruise lines take them to Fincantieri in Italy and some have been done in Japan. MattyBarlow Posted February 14, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 14, 2017 The last propoer refit done in the UK (that i can remeber) was Ocean Villages 2005 refit. I have a photo somewhere of the then new Arcadia infront of OV sat low down in the dry dock in Southampton.
Floflegs Posted February 14, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 14, 2017 On Azura's refit they certainly didn't do anything to the cabins. We had a huge black stain on the carpet which looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years.
2aran Posted February 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Aurora had a refit before the 2015 World cruise. We joined in Valparaiso, Chile and noticed that the work was ongoing with new carpets being laid in cabins on a daily basis. When we arrived at Papeete the old carpets were loaded into skips on the quay. We were requested not to use the basin in our cabin on one day - it was given a quick coat of pink paint. Seems refurbishment is not only land based. It did not affect our voyage and we have treasured memories of that lovely Pacific crossing ending for us in Sydney. ;)

I take it you checked every cabin to ensure it had not been refitted, just because your cabin had a stained carpet does not mean that some of the cabins were not upgraded.
