Clarea Posted February 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Is it ok to wear a nice pair of jeans with a collared shirt and shoes in the main dining room for dinner? The cruise line does not enforce dress suggestions.
Rare mcatmcat Posted February 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2017 100 % permitted. I always wear jeans unless it's formal night. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Pipo Posted February 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I've seen shorts in the MDR, so anything more formal than that is acceptable.
Retired LEO Posted February 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2017 With the exception of tank tops on men and swim wear anything is permitted.
dplusd Posted February 20, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Nice jeans are perfectly fine in the MDR. I wear them to dinner on most non-formal nights.
Ashland Posted February 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 20, 2017 You can even wear them on formal night.

TubbyMrT Posted February 20, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 20, 2017 The main dining room was once an upscale fine dining experience. Sadly, due to today's customer base and apparent cultural norms, dress has become similar to that worn at a neighborhood bar and restaurant. Think Red Lobster, Applebee's, Olive Garden, etc. It is what it is. Jeans are apparently welcome these days. However, I will continue to dress nice for dinner as that is how I was raised. Apparently due to my parents brainwashing, I would feel uncomfortable wearing anything else. Thanks Mom & Dad!
Forewatch Posted February 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I'm with you, TubbyMrT. My mom taught me well too, and I'll continue to dress nice for dinner.
krewzin Posted February 20, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I always wear a camou shirt and camou pants - that way nobody can see me at all. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
MrsPete Posted February 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I wouldn't wear jeans to dinner on a cruise for two reasons: 1) They're just too hot for the Caribbean and 2) Even if people do it all the time, jeans are too casual for the venue. dkirksmith Posted February 20, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Yes, jeans in the MDR are permitted. But, I would not wear them on formal night - just my personal opinion. [emoji3] Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

If you went on an Alaska cruise you might "feel" differently ;)
waterbug123 Posted February 21, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 21, 2017 This just in..... all dining venues on cruise ships are air conditioned, so jeans need not feel any hotter than any other attire worn to dinner. Sorry, I've just never understood the whole "jeans are too hot for the Carib" thing when it comes to what to wear to dinner.;)

Havingfun2010 Posted February 21, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 21, 2017 Number one, jeans are fine, but not on formal night, regardless of the others want to claim. Two, jeans are not hot to wear in the evening in an air conditioned space. That's just an excuse.

BekkaW Posted February 21, 2017 #22 Share Posted February 21, 2017 What about "nice" shorts or "nice" tank tops?[emoji897][emoji897] Sent from my iPhone using Forums I get that you're being ironic, but the fact remains that shorts and tank tops are on a list of excluded items, jeans are not. Whether they are nice jeans or no, they are allowed.
BekkaW Posted February 21, 2017 #23 Share Posted February 21, 2017 Number one, jeans are fine, but not on formal night, regardless of the others want to claim. Two, jeans are not hot to wear in the evening in an air conditioned space. That's just an excuse. Jeans are not prohibited, so your claim about not on formal night is factually incorrect. They don't suddenly become prohibited on formal night. Royal has a 'suggested' dress of formal attire, but not a required dress. If you prefer that everyone dresses formally that's understandable, but not enforceable.
