terri-eddie Posted February 22, 2017 #26 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Um, I think those are called French fries... Nope, not the fries. On the ships with Guys Burgers, the toppings bar has crispy matchstick-sized potato sticks. They are delicious on the burgers....so much so that I looked for them at home. The closest thing I've found are Hickory Sticks [not sure if these are available everywhere or just here in Canada] that have a smoky bacon-ish flavor. Rosefloater Posted February 22, 2017 #27 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Further to the "sealed" quote above. We have a store here in Canada called The Bulk Barn. You fill plastic bags with items and then use a twist-tie to "seal" the bag. There are some bulk items that we would like to bring (i.e. chocolate eggies, etc.). We've had no issues with Disney cruises. Would this be a no-no with Carnival as the bag is not technically "sealed"? I have never had a problem bringing bulk candy/nuts on board. But don't take them off the ship in ports.
easyboy Posted February 22, 2017 #28 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Another Carnival newbie question. Are we allowed to bring snacks on board with us at embarkation? Things I'm talking about are chips, candies, etc. Not a problem.
mscruisegirl Posted February 22, 2017 #29 Share Posted February 22, 2017 Yes, we just got back from a Carnival cruise on Sunday & took sealed snacks ( pb crackers & cereal bars) with us to the ports. Good thing we did because the "all you can eat " buffet & beach excursion carnival sold ran out of food ... one of our friends that went is a diabetic & had to rely on her own food that day !! stargate fan Posted February 23, 2017 #31 Share Posted February 23, 2017 Another Carnival newbie question. Are we allowed to bring snacks on board with us at embarkation? Things I'm talking about are chips, candies, etc. Yep. It just has to be sealed. So no fruit or open bags of chips. We brought a box of granola bars and some peanut butter cracker sandwiches on our cruise a few weeks ago with no problem. We always bring zip-top bags of mixed nuts and savory crackers, left over from our flights, on our cruises. Never had a problem bringing them onto the ships. I do wish there were salty snacks available on board.
sjcruiser Posted February 23, 2017 #32 Share Posted February 23, 2017 Yes, we bring Twizzlers, Mentos, Goobers, Swedish Fish, Mints, Gum, and maybe a can or two of Pringles, when we remember. Most of the time, if I don't bring the items, I'll go to the candy shop, or, if I'm in the casino on a hot machine, I'll hit the candy shop while someone is holding my machine, instead of running up to the room to get something to snack on. watermelonqueen99 Posted February 23, 2017 #33 Share Posted February 23, 2017 I eat high protein, low carb and always bring peanut butter, beef jerky, nuts, seeds, etc. Never had any problems.
johno1234 Posted February 23, 2017 #34 Share Posted February 23, 2017 For day trip snacks at ports we often fill up a lunchbox with fruit from the breakfast buffet. Sometimes we also make sandwiches from the breakfast buffet! Cheeky, and we once had a supervisor wag her finger at us, but really what are they gonna do, throw you overboard? This was in Hawaii. On our Mexico cruise I've heard the food on the port visits is so darn cheap it's not worth worrying about.
PlanoDebbie Posted February 24, 2017 #35 Share Posted February 24, 2017 As far as candy bars, chips, etc., bring them with you. Same goes for OTC meds plus sundries. What you will pay for them on the ship is almost criminal!:o No kidding! Forgot cream rinse on one cruise and figured I'd just pick up a bottle on the ship after the shops opened. A bottle of Suave that normally sells for under $2.00 was over $10.00! Last year we noticed tubes of Pringles selling for $5.99 each. We always bring snacks for our room that are not easily accessible on the ship, or outrageously priced! My husband loves licorice, mixed nuts, starburst, etc. We don't usually pack any kind of chocolate candy primarily because it could melt in the heat before the bag gets to our room and I don't want to deal with a mess. As tempting as it may be, do not take any non-sealed food products off the ship in port. Especially fruit! It's not worth the risk to the port you are visiting. Kanyon71 Posted February 24, 2017 #36 Share Posted February 24, 2017 We have brought pre-packaged snacks onboard and never had an issue. We bring things for us and our daughter. We buy things on the ship also but if I don't have to pay $10 for a bag of trail mix then I would prefer not to. :)

On our Mexico cruise I've heard the food on the port visits is so darn cheap it's not worth worrying about. And in Mexico there will be a dog there to sniff out the food you were not supposed to bring off the ship. It is a Carnival rule but a Mexican law. Entering a foreign country and willfully breaking a law? Not a good way to start your visit. This past November instead of having the dog right as you debarked they were positioned as you exited the duty free shop. Each time they had to search a bag the line was delayed. You couldn't move inside the shops. So please all of you that say how does "my breaking a rule/law effect anyone else?" It does. It took over 30 minutes to get out of Dufy.
