originalgeek Posted February 27, 2017 #151 Share Posted February 27, 2017 How did you get coupons and can someone explain the carnival cash that can be purchased? Sent from my iPhone using Forums Cruise cash is basically like on-board credit except it has to be used for specific items - Bar & Soda will get you drinks, Photo cruise cash is for the pictures on board and they have a general category which I guess can be used for anything . You can order it through the fun shops online at carnival site: Cruise Cash When you purchase it, it's added to your sign and sail account as a credit. The problem with it is it's non-refundable and you can't cash out any left-over at the end of the cruise. Use it or lose it.

Drazil65 Posted February 27, 2017 #154 Share Posted February 27, 2017 They will use your cruise cash first on your S&S acct (if you purchase bar cruise cash then they will deduct anything that you get from that category (the bar) from the bar cruise cash credit first). Once you run through the bar cruise cash (if this is what you buy to pad your S&S for the bar) it then defaults over to whatever you have attached to your S&S acct (like regular cash on the acct or a credit card). We have purchase bar cruise cash to put on our account in addition to the cash we add to our account once we board the ship. Works out great and gives you a little padding for the bar (as in you know exactly how much you have on your S&S set aside for the bar only). Should you have anything left on your account at end of cruise, go to GS the night before (right before they close) or the casino and cash it out. You will get everything in cash. Gtownmom Posted February 27, 2017 #155 Share Posted February 27, 2017 For us, we don't get cheers. Hubby will have 1 or 2 drinks a day. Me, on the other hand would think of cheers like I do buffets. When I see 25 or 30 bucks at a really nice buffet, I think that I would never get my moneys worth. But, I do! Then I regret it for the next few days. I think cheers would be the same.... I'd have to drink enough for both of us... lol

I think y'all are talking about other on-board credit. The main reason I never bought any cruise cash was because they specifically say: Cruise Cash Bar From $25.00 Cruise Cash Bar provides an immediate credit to a guest's Sail & Sign account which can be applied toward any bar purchases. This credit is good for any bar charge made to their account including alcoholic drinks, juice, soda, water, and coffee shop charges. Cruise Cash Bar is valid for a single voyage and cannot be transferred to future bookings. Cruise Cash Bar is non-refundable and any unused credits will be forfeited. but if you guys have done it I may be misinterpreting what Carnival says - if they count cashing out at the casino as "using" it I reckon that would work. Drazil65 Posted February 28, 2017 #158 Share Posted February 28, 2017 We have done it as recent as December on the Magic, no problem cashing out the remainder of "everything left" on the S&S account. It consisted of about $25 in bar cruise cash and about $70 in cash.
mindyiswonderful Posted February 28, 2017 #159 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Following, I am really on the fence about the cheers, I would love to get it so I don't have to worry about it at the end, but also don't want to overspend. I drink a pretty good amount on Vacay, my Hubby drinks more beer, so he isn't too expensive, but I feel like we would get our use out of it? Anyone get is and regret it? First cruiser here so I am nervous about everything lol
hockeyluver Posted February 28, 2017 #160 Share Posted February 28, 2017 We just came back from our first all inclusive, it was a deciding factor for us as to whether to get Cheers or not, the answer is not. We found we drank no where near 15 a day, some days not more than 4. So there is no justifying spending the extra $900 for hubby and myself. sweets2323 Posted February 28, 2017 Author #161 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Just a reminder. The a reminder. The break even point is not 15 drinks. The break even point is about 5 drinks a day. Which includes non alcohol drinks as well. Each drink can run from $8-12 bucks if I am not mistaken. Does anyone know how much the drink of the day is. I remember it being $4.95 but I could be wrong..
mrsfuzzmo Posted February 28, 2017 #162 Share Posted February 28, 2017 I calculated about the same if we were to get it. Just not worth it. We wouldn't and couldn't drink that much (alcoholic or not) during a day. If someone else can, more power to them. We'd have to pee like a racehorse if we had 15 drinks a day. Plus consider any drinks you get while in port. Often times much cheaper. That being said, I WISH there was a shareable couple's package that could be purchased. 15 drinks a day is the LIMIT....not the break even. 5-7 drinks a day (Alcoholic or not) is the break even. mrsfuzzmo Posted February 28, 2017 #163 Share Posted February 28, 2017 Sounds like some people are getting the break even confused with the drink "limit". We just returned from the VISTA. Most drinks were in the $8 neighborhood. So 5 or 6 drinks a day is break even. We would have a pina colada or daquiri or two in the pool. Another cocktail or two during bingo or trivia, a drink or two at the Alchemy bar before dinner, a glass of wine or an amazing Jamaican coffee at dinner and we were well past the break even point. It's not that we drink "a lot" but there are so many choices and options that we would not have tried if we had to pay for them each time. I would have never had the Jamaican Coffee at dinner (ended up having them every night) or tried some of the cool craft cocktails at Alchemy Bar. We only got close to 15 drinks on one day. Most days we were at 7-10 drinks throughout the entire day and night. We were well ahead by the end of the cruise.

While the break even is actually much lower, another consideration is trial and error. When you have a prepaid package, you might try something you ordinarily would not. If you don't like it you can dump it and not drink it, you might be less likely to try it if you have to pay for each individual drink.

My DH doesn't drink so no cheers for me but I tried a drink from Alchemy bar, The Quick Fix and hated it. I usually just stick with what I know and like and that drink validated why I do that. If I had Cheers, I could have left it and got something else.

I'm well aware. 10 - 14 drinks is far more than we would ever consume on a daily basis.

sanger727 Posted March 1, 2017 #171 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Um, then why even mention the 10-14 range then? It's not relevant. I took that to mean per couple, since both in the room have to buy it. There is no simple formula for whether or not cheers is worth it for you. Cheers will get your specialty coffees, sodas, and other nonalcoholic drinks as well... if your plan on vacation is to budget then yes, it's 100% possible to spend less than cheers on your drink bill. If your are willing to pay the upfront cost to: have cappuccino or a latte instead of the buffet coffee, to have sodas instead if the iced tea/lemonade, to grab a bottle of water when you get off at port or to take around the ship with you, to have a mimosa/Bloody Mary with breakfast on sea days and martinis/wine with dinner ever night, to not feel bad chucking your pool drink if it gets warm and go get another one; all without the cost being a consideration; then it's worthwhile for you. I can easily drink half the daily cost in non-alcoholic drinks between having a couple cappuccinos a day, several sodas, and the convenience of grabbing bottled water (usually carry a bubba mug but being able to grab and go from a bar throughout the day is certainly more convenient). So cheers would be. No brainer for me - prob is my bf doesn't drink at all and only drinks iced tea and lemonade anyway so it's not worthwhile to get two packages just for me. johno1234 Posted March 1, 2017 #172 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Good summary, thanks sanger727. Having one non drinker out of two does kill the numbers. One thing to remember if you have kids with you and booked two staterooms - you can nominally put one adult in each room and therefore get Cheers for a single adult. You can then re-accomodate yourselves with kids in one room and adults in the other - the stewards don't care and will happily arrange the bedding to suit you. Melissalcsw Posted March 1, 2017 #173 Share Posted March 1, 2017 I am really glad I found this thread. I've seriously been debating this in my head, $574 for the two of us on a 5 day, is a lot of money. However, knowing that easily we could drink 5 drinks a day (coffee, mimosa, frozen something or another by the poolx2, two glasses of wine at dinner), we could easily break even. Plus not having to worry about our balance; definitely will be a more relaxed mommy = more relaxed cruise for everyone. :p Unfortunately I have already ordered water for the cabin, but there are unlimited drink options, and that in itself is super fun. Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions!
