cruisenovice2017 Posted March 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2017 If I fund my Sail & Sign account with cash at embarkation, do I have to use actual cash or can I write a check? And also, are those funds immediately available once I am on the ship?
Gamecock_Cruiser Posted March 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2017 I'm not sure about a check, but cash is available as soon as you apply it to your account.
cb at sea Posted March 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2017 They will CASH 1 check (up to $200) per week...but I don't know about accepting a check as payment.....You should call Carnival, and ask! I don't understand about the "are funds available" question....you can start charging to your cabin as soon as you board. If you need cash for gambling or going ashore, then keep back the cash you need....don't put ALL of your cash money on your account! You will have a safe in your cabin, so keep the cash you will need.
BuckeyeCruiseGuy Posted March 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2017 To set up your account you need one of the following https://help.goccl.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1138/related/1 The following forms of payment are accepted to open a Sail & Sign account: Cash / Traveler's Checks / Credit Cards / Debit Cards This is info on check cashing Check Cashing Guests may use their personal checks on board to acquire a cash advance at the Casino Cashier's Window. Global Cash Access (GCA) provides this service by debiting the guest's checking account, using the account number on the check. The guest must have available monies in the checking account that the check is drawn on. Important Note: Just like debit cards, the monies are immediately debited from the guest's checking account. For this service, GCA charges 5.5% of the value of the cash advance requested or a flat fee of $5.50 if the amount requested is $100 or less. Since the guest's checking account is debited (same as if using a debit card), the personal check is returned to the guest. Limits are determined by the available monies currently available in the guest's checking account. We do not accept Cashier's Checks, Bank Checks nor Money Orders. SchoolNurseMom Posted March 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2017 I have used Carnival gift cards to set up my account with onboard. I bought ours at Kroger with their 4x fuel points deal. Win win!

Your options for funding your S&S card are cash/travelers checks, gift cards, debit cards, or credit cards. If you are reluctant to carry that much cash with you, but want to fund your account with a cash equivalent, I would go with gift cards.
sk8rmomof3 Posted March 8, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 8, 2017 If you put cash on the room? Let's say $1000 credit on your account, and you don't use it all, do they reimburse that somehow? I LOVE the idea of the Carnival gift cards. I'm going to see if I can find some near us!
maryred Posted March 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2017 If you put cash on the room? Let's say $1000 credit on your account, and you don't use it all, do they reimburse that somehow? I LOVE the idea of the Carnival gift cards. I'm going to see if I can find some near us! Yes they do give you your cash back, but you have to close your account at the Guest Services desk on the last night of the cruise. If you don't and just let on board accounting close the account, very early on the debarkation day, Carnival will mail you a check in 7-10 days, but only if there is more than $10 left on the account. Any account w/ $10 or less will have the money donated to Saint Jude's Children Cancer Research Hospital. As for gift cards you can order them directly from http://www.carnivalgiftcards.com/ , you can choose to receive the card electronically (almost immediate & no transaction fee from Carnival) or have a physical card(s) sent by mail (about 10-14 days for a small handling fee). If look for the gift cards to be bought with cash there are many retailers including Lowes Home Improvement and many grocery stores that sell them. Some grocers will run a promotion for their loyalty or fuel points for buying a certain total amount or denomination of the gift card. Additionally if you are a Verizon Wireless customer or AARP Points for Good participant discounted cards can be ordered from them using a combination of points and debit/credit card. Also certain credit card point companies have in their reward program Carnival GCs paid for entirely ith points. These reward sites take 2-3 weeks to process the order. Just to note if all funds from a gift card applied to the S&S account are not fully used, Carnival will refund the amount either back to the card or mail you a new card within 7-10 days of the cruise ending. Carnival gift cards are not reloadable. If you are due a refund for anything (including amounts left on your S&S), Carnival will mail you a new gift card in that amount. Tip ... if you have any amount left on your S&S and don't want to wait for a new gift card, just cash out the last night using the casino trick. Schoifmom Posted March 8, 2017 #15 Share Posted March 8, 2017 my last cruise i waited in a line that took an hour I suppose that depends on when you choose to apply the cash and/or gift cards to your account. Most ports will accept cash at check in, some will accept gift cards. You can apply cash through the kiosks. Some kiosks will take gift cards. This is when FTTF really comes in handy! And also, are those funds immediately available once I am on the ship? so ignore all the other threads that didn't have anything todo with your question, except one! carnival has no way of knowing your check is valid, and not going to bounce, therefore, you cant use a personal check. only at the casino, as stated, and the funds are withdrawn right away, with an xtra fee... so I suggest you just use cash ! i put a minimum amount at check-in, then use the onboard kiosk to deposit more., and dont forget about 1/2 through the cruise the tips will be withdrawn from your onboard acct... coevan Posted March 8, 2017 #20 Share Posted March 8, 2017 I follow the lead of George Clooney in the movie Up in the Air, it's all about the mileage. I charge everything. I can not understand why anyone would not want 2% back just for paying your bill.
