Help! Looking for transportation help Newark to times sq and then to cape liberty

Recommended Posts

Help! We need some transportation help. We are flying into Newark on Friday and staying 2 nights at the Westin Times Square. Then we need to get from the Westin Times Square to the cruise terminal. We have a 7 year old and will not have a booster with us so that is making it trickier. Any recommendations?

Thankful

You can take the train from Newark airport right into Manhattan.

Agree. NJT (New Jersey Transit) can take you directly from Newark airport to NY Penn station. You can gram a quick cab from there to Times Square. Two things to think about though...

1. How much luggage will you have? A lot of luggage makes jumping on NJT tough and same with the cab to Times Square. On the other hand, if you only have a couple bags, and they have rollers, Times Square is only a 10-15 minute walk from Penn Station.

2. What time of day are yo arriving? NJT at rush hour can be a sardine can. Also weekend late afternoon (people heading into town for a show) can be very busy. Toting lots of luggage cold make getting on the train difficult. Newark AP station is one of the last stations on the NJT run from Trenton to NYC.

Maybe looking a head at a van service would get yo the best deal. Anybody driving into Manhattan will charge a ripe price though.

New Jersey Transit is easy and convenient - you can take the train right to Penn Station (34th)....you are only 8 blocks from Times Square (42nd) so unless you are schlepping heavy luggage, you can easily walk the blocks or take the subway one stop north ($2.75 one way per person.)

For the trip to the terminal, you should be able to grab a cab to take you there, or an Uber. Please keep in mind that this is an expensive option, but it might be convenient....the earlier you go, the better.

There is also express bus service from Newark airport to Port Authority located at 42nd Street 8th Avenue. If you look at the above link towards the bottom

Express Bus runs between Newark Liberty International Airport & New York City. The Express Bus runs from 4 a.m. until 2 a.m./ 365 days. The cost is $16 for one way, or $28 for round trip. Each bus stops at all 3 New York stops.

We flew into Newark last year from Scotland UK, for a 2 night stay at the beginning of our cruise, there was 3 of us with heavy luggage.

We got a slighty larger taxi at the airport, to our hotel just off Times Square and it was $100 each way
