Rare vacationlover_mn Posted April 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2017 We are doing a fishing excursion with Royal Caribbean, and have the option to send our fish home. Anyone have any idea of what it costs to get fish sent home? Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
nparmelee Posted April 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2017 It's going to depend on the weight. Most will include an ice pack or dry ice and ship 2-day.
diesel1973 Posted April 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2017 When in Homer I checked the cost. To process (50#),package,freeze, and send overnite air to Chicago was $300+. As I spend 6 wks. up there in summer fishing I process, package, and freeze my catch(100-150#) and bring it on plane for $25 each 50# fish box. I have seen numerous times where people catch fish and when they find out the shipping cost they give the fish away.

It was the most expensive fish we have ever eaten. Delicious but expensive. DON
mapleleaves Posted April 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Since you don't know which charter company you're using for this excursion you can't determine the cost to clean, freeze and ship. You could use this company's price list as a guide though: http://welovefish.com/seafood-processing.htm
diesel1973 Posted April 12, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2017 With the charter cost, license fee, processing and shipping it adds up quick. Ends up about the same price stores up there are charging for halibut but its no fun fishing at a supermarket and the scenery isn't the same!! A friend of mine claims Costco is getting $32/lb. for halibut down here.

Budget Queen Posted April 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2017 For my family, it has never been less than $100 out of Ketchikan.
