HELP!! Please!! Port Yucatan (Progreso), Mexico?!?!?!

Hi Everyone,

 

My husband and I are sailing to this port in June.. Can anyone recommend a really nice beach that has clean restrooms and maybe a restaurant/ bar..

 

We just want to lounge out in the sun and enjoy ourselves.

Progreso is not a beach destination. It is a poor fishing town. The port is the closest destination to tons of Mayan ruins, and the city of Merida which is a very nice colonial city.... excursions to those are the focus.

The beach in Progreso is free and there used to be some restaurants right across the road but I heard that Buddy's is now closed. I don't know of any others. The vendors will be unrelenting there. Once we walked down the beach about a quarter mile and found a spot where no one bothered us but there were no facilities.

Agree - not a beach destination. Use this port to tour ruins. On a previous cruise, I did a BBQ Beach excursion with Carnival. It was fine - food and drinks were fine. Tour guides and staff were friendly and helpful. It was at a private secluded villa with restrooms and change rooms. But the beach was blah. Water is not clear, not blue. Lots of seaweed/seagrass and it was kinda gross to wade through.

BEACHES - The only beach actually “in” Progreso is free. Loungers, Jet-skis, banana boats, and sea kayaks are available to rent. The coast along Progreso is all sand and there are NO reefs in or near Progreso. If you are looking for ocean snorkeling, I would recommend doing that in Cozumel. There are a few all-inclusive and pay-as-you-go beaches within 10-40 minutes from Progreso that are offered by Carnival or other local tour operators:

- Silcer Club = 10 min

- Sian Ka’n = 15 min

- Technotel = 35 min

- Reef Club = 35 min
