Hey Cruising Is Life, For what its worth we always BYOB, both hard, wine and beer. about 2-3 cases of beer icon_smile.gif . Go to a yard sale or a goodwill store and by a cheap old hard sided suite case for $3.00 and load it up. Works every time. Then you have room to pack all your treasures collected along the way.

Christmas on the Caribbean Princess begins in...

Someone in an earlier post said that the Diamond and Caribbean Princess deck plans were the same. If that's the case I was just on the Diamond on Dolphin deck (D404) and the balcony was totally uncovered, which was fine with me since the weather was perfect, and we're boring so no worry about others looking down on us. We had a table, two chairs and two lounge chairs with pads that we spent a lot of time on watching the world go by. The balcony size was fine for the two of us.

We never had any problem finding a nice table location in the Caribe Cafe. Never more than Half full would be my guess. There was some sort of seafood available every night in the Caribe Cafe.

The cabins we had ( C-714) was by no means spacious, but it is certainly fine for two people for a week. The bathroom is quite small, but efficient, the shower is small, but serviciable.

I never heard the Love Boat song played.

I did see quite a few people bringing on thier one cases of soda and water. To my knowledge they had no problems doing so.

Our room steward "Sax" was excellent, he was very helpful and pleasant. Some of the ohter staff that we ran into were not so pleasant. Thatas not to say they were bad or rude, but just not quite as friendly as I have encountered in the past. Like I said before, no big deal at all, just an observation.

Yes they really do have crab legs in The Caribe cafe.

Our cabin location was great, it was just a few paces from the aft stairwell and elevators.

My comments about the Dolphin deck balcony cabins only pertain to those on the sides on the ship. I can't comment on the aft cabins or mini-suites.

Yes, we did use the Palm dining room. We had a table for two that was one foot away from the tables next to us on either side. I did see some tables fot two that were up against the wall that had alot of separation between tables.

I agree with comettgirl comments about the Dolphin balconies, if you want more space definately choose the Caribe deck. From our balcony on Caribe we could stand at the railing and look straight down onto the Dolphin deck balconies. Two chairs, two recliners and tables would be a really tigh sqeeze on the Dolphin deck balconies.

Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

The Dolphin Deck is basically all the mini-suites (I believe there's also a few on the Emerald Deck). The mini-suites are a much larger cabin with a sofabed, two tvs and a tub in the bathroom. The balcony is completely open on Dolphin deck....I'm not sure about the balconies for the mini-suites on Emerald deck).

On Caribe deck the cabins are just balcony cabins but have bigger balconies (half exposed and half open) and there is room for lounge chairs in addition to your table and 2 chairs.

We've been in a mini-suite on dolphin deck and a balcony cabin on caribe deck on the Grand and loved both. You just have to decide what's more important to you...bigger cabin or bigger balcony.

LunaMoon,

You will definately enjoy C-714. And if Sax is still your room steward you will not be disappointed in his service. I sincerely hope that you enjoy your cruise as much as we did.

My significant other says that she objects to the "roomy" idea though. Geez, what a kill joy! icon_smile.gif

LunaMoom,

Three other female teachers and I will also be on the July 31st sailing on C deck! We're just down the hall. Can't wait!! From my experience on the Star Princess, also on Caribe deck, I know that those balconies are the largest ones. I'm a brand new poster on this forum, but have been reading for about a month.

Thanks so much for all the great information. We were just assigned our cabin (C223) for the October 2 sailing. I was worried about our cabin's deck til I read the post.

If anyone has stayed in this cabin, I would love to know your opinion.

Thanks

Terri

I am sailing Carribean on 8/14, and I just can't wait. Some people have talked about bringing their "1 case of water and 1 case of soda" on board....let me get this straight...

Am I allowed to bring 1 24 case of Coke and 1 case of water bottles and display them out in the open as I board? Do I need to "smuggle them" or is this in compliance with Princess Cruise Line Rules?

What are the official rules concerning Soda and Water?

What are the official rules concerning taking aboard Beer or Hard Liquor.

Thanks

Pez

We are in our 20s, and my age group tends to adore Absolut and Coke equally as well when enjoying the night life on Cruises!

I just retired yesterday (!) from 33 years of teaching mostly first grade! My three friends are teachers of 3rd grade, junior high English, and one is in professional development and part time teaching elementary reading.

Hi, got a question about the horizon court/caribe cafe...

Do they steak and fries each night or only seefood stuff ? And is it a buffet style setup.

We loved the Winjammer on RCCL because you could just go in have a great steak and fries and leave again. No hassle.

THANKS !

Airpexman-We are also on the August 14th sailing, glad to see you found us on the roll call thread- http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?q=Y&a=tpc&s=927093444&f=4763056957&m=8763099677&p=2

As for items brought on board any Princess ship. Water, soda or beer is safe to be carried on. Any hard liquor that is found in your carryon will be held until the last night on board.

Best thing to do with that is to order from room service. Prices are comparible to what you would pay, and even a little cheaper at times. If you call room service and request it, they will deliver a price list to your cabin. Most prices for a liter are around $20, except for Jack Daniels which was $35 on our last sailing in the spring. Much easier and about the same price as trying to pack it in your checked luggage and take the chance of it breaking. They have a long list of what is available. Whatever you do, do not try to purchase this from the bars onboard as the prices are much higher. Room Service is the only way to go.

See you in August!

Boy, I'm even more excited about my upcoming cruise on the CP knowing I have a Caribe deck balcony! 9x9.5?? Wow, that's gonna be great! I may never leave the balcony!

Question though, we have about 6 cabins side by side on the Caribe deck. We were told that we would be able to open the dividers. Can anybody confirm?

If this helps when we sailed on the Golden we could open the balcony doors between cabins. It is just a doorway type opening though. You still can't see the other people unless you are standing there.

Pammy, as someone else mentioned, as far as I know, there is a doorway opening between the balconies that can be opened, but you can't swing open the entire balcony divider. You will be able to pass through each other's balconies through the doorway, but it won't be like one humongous balcony.

We were on the same cruise and had a blast. I now know why people put down their deposits for the next trip before they're even home. (We did.)

The only point from the original post that I'll respond to is the staff comment....we found the staff all to be very nice and accommodating. Our room steward on Riviera deck was the only one we found less accommodating. Every time I asked for anything, such as the robes that we had already signed up for when we booked, he made it sound like a huge hassle for him and would say "they're all gone already, I'll try to find one for you but I won't be able to get two." But then anything we asked for would appear, so we felt as if he was bucking for a tip all the time, like he was bending over backward for us. That was just one individual, though.

Also, as I've read elsewhere on these boards, if you order water or iced tea from waitstaff at the pools or bars, you get little response. My wife even ordered water when I ordered cocktails, and the waitperson would consistently come back with just the cocktail.

We loved the casino. We're not big gamblers but found ourselves there nearly every evening. The dealers were super friendly and helpful, it was much more laid back than Vegas or Atlantic City in terms of them giving guidance or teaching you rules. The waitstaff in there was excellent, too. Unlike we'd read on these boards, we found $5 blackjack tables open at all times.

It wasn't clear to us, but at least one of the formal dining rooms is open for lunch each day. We overheard others talking about this as well, at dinner the last night a neighbor said "Oh, you can sit down for lunch? We didn't know that."

We bought rum in Jamaica and no one took it from us when we boarded. We found that the prices of buying liquor through the gift program, where you order before you embark and it's delivered your cabin, were comparable and in some cases cheaper than buying liquor in Virginia and carrying it with us.

We'd reccommend this ship and cruiseline. It was our first cruise and we really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the info about the dividers! Having them not open all the way will have it's pro's and cons. On Carnival when we've opened them all up somebody's door always seems to get covered and the dividers bang at night if not blocked by chairs. But...having them open all the way creates one enormous balcony for all of us to hang out on! It's like a big porch on a southern mansion and definately the gathering spot for everybody! Sunrise coffees, pre-dinner cocktails and bathrobe parties at night.......ahhhhhhhhhhh, it makes me really want to cruise NOW!
