RW20 Posted May 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2017 I will be travelling to Cozumel and Costa Maya. We will likely be going to Playa Mia in Cozumel and on an excursion in Costa Maya. So other than that the only shopping we would likely do would be at the cruise port. Is there an advantage to having Pesos or will I be ok with US$? JohninDC Posted May 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2017 US Dollars are widely accepted at most tourist spots and most of the menus, cab fares and prices will be quoted in dollars. Bring lots of small bills - they never seem to have change when you pull out a $20 bill.
OCruisers Posted May 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2017 Using the US Dollar is not a problem and the easiest thing to do! Do have some small bills with you! ;)
cruisin 07 Posted May 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2017 using peso's saves you money since exchange rates by some establishments can be 16 to 1 or lower with the current rate at over 18 to 1. I use my CC at grocery stores and some restaurants since there are no transaction fees with it and been getting yesterday a 18.8 to 1 exchange. Also use the ATM at Mega grocery store or bank to get pesos. Took out 7000 pesos and the fee was 4.70 USD. Never use the free standing ATM's around the square etc. They are privately owned and charge large fees.
