Dietemann Posted May 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2017 We plan to buy a train ticket from a kiosk at the Hamburg airport train station in Germany. I believe you will have to validate it on the platform? Our trip will also necessitate changing trains - do we have to validate again before entering the second train? I do not want to pre-purchase this time since I'm not sure of which train we will be able to get after arriving from London at the Hamburg airport. Hartsfreeway Posted May 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2017 Hi, You will just buy the ticket and you are fine. At Hamburg there is no validating of tickets. They show a time and date on the print out. If there are controlls you will be requested to show it, if you then fail there will be a 60€ penalty. If you stay at Hamburg you can prebook a day ticked, valid for all HVV trains at Ham. The S-Bahn trains from the airport will run every 10 minutes. Dietemann Posted May 30, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted May 30, 2017 Thank you, Chris. We will take the S-Bahn from the airport and change at Hbf to our ongoing train, don't plan to stay in Hamburg. So it sounds as if we'll be fine without having to find a machine for validating the ticket. I left Germany in 1964, just go back for visits now. So much has changed, lots new stuff to learn each time.
