lilred216 Posted July 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2017 We will be sailing out of New Orleans in March 2018. We will be flying in a day before cruise and are looking for a hotel that is near the cruise port and also easily accessible to the french quarter. Any recommendations would be appreciated. garycarla Posted July 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2017 For sure, do in or near French Quarter. Quick cab ride in morning to ship. If you gamble at Harrahs at all.. check on getting a room there. Many other sites online that compare hotels. BOOK SOON. HOTELS IN NEW ORLEANS ARE OFTEN IN SHORT SUPPLY

Rare www3traveler Posted July 1, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2017 I stay at The Sheraton on Canal Street. Just a few blocks from the Port. Near lots of attractions including the edge of the French Quarter across the street.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, we always stay at Harrahs before and after a cruise and then walk over to the cruise-port. Super easy with luggage that rolls well:cool:
Rare bedfordmom Posted July 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2017 Embassy Suites-- suite rooms, great blast, manager reception and walkable to port if u don't have too much luggage. We could see the ship from our suite porch. We were leaving New Orleans so it was a little depressing for me Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare Wildcatllamas Posted July 2, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 2, 2017 I like staying at the Drury Inn on Poydras. It is about 8 blocks down to Harrah's or the mall on the River. It is 5 blocks to the French Quarter. On the corner is the stop for the bus/trolley. Don't remember what I paid the last time for an all day ticket and went all over the place. They have a happy hour with food. Usually hot dogs, salad, chili, baked potatoes and other small items. I will usually do a salad and baked potato with chili/cheese on it. So that can work for a light dinner. Then in the morning they have a pretty nice breakfast. You shouldn't go hungry.
Rare BirdTravels Posted July 2, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 2, 2017 We stayed at the Hilton Riverside. Right on the trolley line and a short walk into the French Quarter.
Azure Moon Posted July 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Way back in 2011 we stayed at Hampton Inn and Suites 226 Carondelet Street. It was just across Canal Street, so close to the trolleys. It was close to the drug store. Near the French Quarter, so easy walking. Close enough to Deanie's restaurant that that was the first restaurant we ate at after starting our sightseeing walk of New Orleans. It's been awhile, but if the reviews were still good, I'd go back there again. The staff went out of their way to help us with a passport problem, and that still makes me feel good. BoozeCruiser83 Posted July 31, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2017 We stayed at the Hilton Riverside. Right on the trolley line and a short walk into the French Quarter. Agree with this recommendation. It wont be the cheapest option, but easy walk to the quarter and walking distance to the port! Get some charbroiled oysters from Dragos located inside the lobby as well!

mugtech Posted July 31, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Good info on here for hotels, we are looking for a hotel post cruise, staying a few days, then flying out. Could anyone suggest a hotel which has transfers from the ship and also transfers to the airport? Like the idea of being close to the French Quarter. I'm not sure about transfers, but it's pretty easy and cheap to just hop in an Uber. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
garycarla Posted July 31, 2017 #18 Share Posted July 31, 2017 re: Post Cruise Taxi or uber from port to downtown hotel will be cheap. Some are within walking distance depending on your luggage and stamina. No idea about transfers. Seems I read that some will take people to the terminal, but pickup is an issue because they never know when folks will actually get off and clear customs. Airport transfers - since you are downtown and quite a ways from the airport, shuttles probably are rare. Cab/uber would probably be best. You might want to check the ports of call/departures sub forum.
Sand and Seas Posted July 31, 2017 #19 Share Posted July 31, 2017 After cruise, we also stay at Harrah's. Super easy to walk back to this hotel and they will hold your luggage until rooms are available. This is one of the best hotels that Caesar's Entertainment has, so if you have some sort of status with playing at any of their casinos I would suggest you call and ask about rooms there. They might have a discounted or comped room available for you. A friend of ours called them and although they didn't have a room available for them they did get them a comped room at another close by name brand hotel. It never hurts to ask;)
