Vision of the Seas- so what do you like about the ship and not like very much?

Recommended Posts

Just off of Vision today!

PROS:

Captain Marek. Like an earlier poster said..I don't care about the captains. Totally different story. Marek interacts with the passengers, sings in the Centrum (don't miss out on him doing Bon Jovi), and genuinely enjoys his job and his staff.

Windjammer. I have been on several RC cruises and generally avoid this like the plague. However, the variety and quality was much better this go-round. I actually only went to the dining room ONCE.

A smaller ship - so it doesn't have a very crowded feel.

I will say my cabin was kind of close to the Centrum...and we never heard a thing.

Embarkation and debarkation - unbelievably quick and easy!

Staff. Everyone we saw was so nice.

Not many kids. I'm not trying to sound hateful, but after my last Carnival cruise, this was a plus.

CONS:

Shopping. The prices are always jacked up on cruise ships, but it was ridiculous.

The cruise director. I'm sure he's a nice guy but he was as entertaining as a wet rag.

The "one man show"..ugh. Just don't. Just. Don't.

Inconsistency with drinks. A caiparhaina on one side of the boat was totally different that one at the bar on another side of the boat.

The regular cruise director, Steve Davis, came back from vacation today. He has lots of energy and teaches “Thriller”.

Did you have to pay for room service breakfast? I think they charge now

I know for a fact that HAL does not have any charge for room service. My wife was sick three days last year onboard. I am not sure about RCL.

RC charges for room service, except for continental breakfast items in the morning.

I am disappointed there is no sports court. I assumed there would be one as we were on a very small HAL ship and it even had one.

We are cruising 1 July, 2 families with 4 teenagers. I'm a bit worried they will be bored now. We picked the cruise due to different ports for us all as we've cruised quite a lot in the Med.

Anyone been on with teenagers?

We are also cruising on this ship next year with teenagers and I'm hoping there will be enough life on board having only ever cruised on bigger ships
We enjoyed the ship but to be honest except for the pools there is not much on there for kids so if you can i would seek out any reviews from people with kids or relook at your booking and change to a bigger ship if onboard kids facilities is what you want.

Which drink card was this?

I suggest that you to ask about it at a bar every day. We just came off Vision last week and saw the $85 for 10 drinks on the pool bar counter on the LAST night - what a shame as there was no mention of this in the Cruise Compass daily rag. Take note too that Casino Bar had $2 Mimosas from 12-1pm on sea days (go for the doubles for great value!).

If it isn’t too late I would change to another ship.

I must admit I haven't been on Vision since she left San Pedro...however I've booked her next May 2019 for the 12 night Med/Greek Isles itinerary...and am so looking forward to sailing on her again.

We just got off Vision last Thursday and quite frankly I would definitely re-consider any options you can find.

Whilst we always just go with the flow and have enjoyed some cruises better than others, there was something seriously missing on the Vision. It is the first time ever for us, that there has been announcements in 2 languages for everything. Apparently there were 217 Spanish guests on board so perhaps they were catering for them but it just seemed to go on and on. The CD was not our cup of tea and certainly doesn't make or break a cruise, but it was monotonous for the most part. Food was OK just. Hard sell was just that especially at the beginning of the cruise. Giovannis was empty most nights and the Some Enchanted Evening Lounge is completely under utilised given it;s position on the ship, aft with wall to wall windows overlooking the wake. In fact Park West seemed to be permanently placed there. I have cruised a lot, but have to say, this was the coldest ship I have ever been on. Since coming home with have both had sore throats and flu like symptoms. It was OK but only just.

So sorry to read of your negative experiences. I had a wonderful Greek Isles cruise a couple of years ago. Great fellow passengers and great crew. I guess being a Texan I am well adapted to air conditioning.

It is pretty normal to have announcements in two languages when sailing in Europe. I have had bi-lingual cruise directors open shows in both Spanish and English. Yes, I agree that they take longer, but that's okay under the circumstances.

Hope your next cruise is more to your liking.

I have to agree with the OP. We just returned Sunday from a 12 day cruise aboard VOS. Out of 8 cruises this was the worst ship we have ever experienced. Food was mediocre at best, boring, unimaginative and rarely changed. Day old dinner rolls were filled with jam and covered in powder sugar and passed off as pastries at Cafe Latti-tudes. Complimentary beverage offerings such as ice tea and lemon aid were only available during dining hours which were very limited. 1 1/2 hour for dining room lunch is ridiculous. Coffee station outside of the Windjammer had consistently lukewarm coffee, I doubt it was made fresh but instead leftover from the buffet and never checked throughout the day. Activities and shows were terrible or just non existent. I have never seen Army Fail Videos played on the outdoor screen on any of my cruises but on VOS it was non stop for 12 days, the only other option was Soccer which played for hours every day.

Twice we found ourselves at the front desk due to the fact that we were charged for alcohol, my husband doesn't drink and I didn't order any drinks on this cruise. Then I asked how our account could possibly be charged without handing over our room key? Her remark was well mistakes happen??? I'm like what?

There were over 1100 English speaking passengers and approximately 200 Spanish speaking passengers but every announcement, activity and even the 2 movies that were offered on the cruise were followed by Spanish announcements and Spanish subtitles for the movie. The ending narrative was complete covered by the subtitles and we were unable to read the narrative at the end of the movie.

This was our second RCI cruise and most likely our last.

We also came home with cough, fever and flu like symptoms and are still trying to recover.

We sailed the Vision 16 night TA last August along with friends and family including 16 year old twin boys. I was a bit worried when my brother booked the kids as the Vision is a smaller ship, typically the TA crowd is older, and we had 6 sea days in a row.

There were approximately 7 kids onboard (including my nephews) and I have to say that those kids had the best time of all on the ship! The crew was fantastic and every day was packed with activities that passengers could participate in. The Captain (Captain Michael) and officers were very visible and friendly.

The food was good in all venues and the MDR breakfast buffet was the best ever with sautéed mushrooms and a toast machine!

If you don't like announcements in multiple languages, then you shouldn't cruise out of the US. Anywhere else in the world, it is standard for the announcements to be made in multiple languages.

To each is own though! We can't wait to be back on the Vision later this year!
