Bllybb758 Posted July 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Hey guys, I am wondering even though it was out of their budget back then what if they go and build project pinnacle now that the recession is bouncing back and people are taking more vacations, they really need to bring out a mega ship and get theirselves a ship that would be as much fun as Oasis of the seas class is. First and Ten Posted July 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Billy, question if I can. I am not looking to twist you, I am being serious. What is the draw based on size? Now I get a bigger ship will typically have more dining options. I understand if someone says they like different specialty dining. Ok, then a bigger ship that has more options makes sense. I don't get this line, which I hear a lot on here...."I only sail on the bigger and newer ships"....My question is "Why"? Like I said, I get if they responded with "The bigger ships only have these 2 so-and-so restaurants. That makes sense....I just don't get the "bigger" reasoning. Interested if you like "bigger", why? Hoosierpop Posted July 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2017 I'm not sure they need to. But if they think they can get similar or better margins with a bigger ship, then fine. Personally, I don't care. I like the sizes of their ships now. Sent from my iPad using Forums
VolzCruiser Posted July 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 27, 2017 I for one don't want to pay higher rates for things I will never use. Such as a Rock Climbing Wall, Flo Rider, or an Ice Skating rink. All the extra comes with a price. so I am okay with Carnival sticking with what they have gotten right so far.
Crusingdiva62 Posted July 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2017 No If I wanted to sail floating condos of the seas I would book cruises on those line.
countrygirlcruiser1234 Posted July 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2017 No, I never understood the draw of being on a ship with over 6,000 other people. Personally the Breeze is the perfect size. We have cruised on her 3 times, once during spring break, once in May and once in September. It never felt crowded to me.

They offer a whole lot more than just a few extra restaurants. A couple basic reasons. Since we are obviously talking about Oasis class. It's the ONLY truly innovative and modern ship design. The neighborhood concepts, space usage, and venue designs make the ship feel far less crowded and giving you a lot more options for things to do. Others say "I don't want to use the ice rink" - but they say this because they haven't actually been on the ship. These same people enjoy exceptional shows... well the ice rink is mainly used as an entertainment venue for ice shows (and they are outstanding). By having several show venues, you reduce the rush to a single venue for a single show. Spreading out passengers better and creating a better experience. Serenity doesn't compare in any way, shape, or form to the large Solarium - which has a full restaurant and buffet, pool, hot tubs, bar, etc. Nothing else like the Boardwalk and Central Park. More pools to spread the crowds out. More/better dining and bar venues. The casino feels more like a real casino and not a bunch of machines in the middle of the promenade - which creates a terrible and smokey promenade... It's just truly innovative and better than anything else out there by a long shot.
TheTravelista Posted July 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 27, 2017 No because at this point I have no faith that Carnival can do a mega ship properly. They'll make it bigger, add more cabins, and keep all public areas the same size with minor casual dining upgrades. No thanks. They had their chance with Project Pinnacle. They got cold feet, RCI took their ideas and design, and that's all she wrote.
Rare shof515 Posted July 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Carnival is slowly testing the waters with mega ships like the Vista, Horizon and 3rd vista class ship. I wont be surprised to see the next new class of ships to be bigger and more improved considering that latest trend in the industry is bigger is better
First and Ten Posted July 27, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 27, 2017 They offer a whole lot more than just a few extra restaurants. Cool....what? That's why I was asking. I mean if you tell me there are 3 pools instead of 2 that's not a big deal because there are 6000 people instead of 4000. I know on the Oasis, there is an ice skating show, is that the main draw? woodman Posted July 27, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 27, 2017 There is a market for the mega ships and a market for the ships Carnival sails. Personally I like Carnival and their ships. I enjoyed the Vista but am looking forward to sailing on the Sunshine this Nov. We have booked the Oasis for Sept. more to see what it's like then for the ports. We are both on in age and will not use any of the big toys the ship has to offer but we had to try it one time.I'm sure we will have a great time on the Oasis I'm equally sure I will be glad to return to Carnival.

I mean if you tell me there are 3 pools instead of 2 that's not a big deal because there are 6000 people instead of 4000. I know on the Oasis, there is an ice skating show, is that the main draw? It's the overall ship design. There is no single draw. It's so much more spacious, everything about it is so much more beautiful, grander, and spectacular. Little things like having drinks with live music on the Rising Tide bar, then hopping off in Central Park to enjoy wine and live string music around real plants. Then maybe heading down to the boardwalk for ice cream and catching a Cirque style diving show in the AquaTheater. Afterwards, heading to the Entertainment Place for some live jazz and maybe hit up the huge casino for a bit. There is simply a flow and feel with the neighborhood concepts that doesn't exist on Carnival ships. If you haven't been on Oasis class, it's something you just need to experience. You can't be a passionate cruiser without at least trying it.

I wont be surprised to see the next new class of ships to be bigger and more improved considering that latest trend in the industry is bigger is better Vista class is in no way remotely a "mega ship". It's the same size as Dream. Consider Royal's Voyager of the seas, entered service TWENTY YEARS AGO is bigger than Vista. Carnival is clearly not interested in the mega ship category yet, and seems content with the smaller ultra-budget approach... which isn't working and you know it's not working by simply comparing Carnival and Royal's stock prices. Carnival desperately needs an Oasis style mega ship, and how exciting would that be. I have a ton of faith that they could pull of something possibly better than Oasis. Micahs Grandad Posted July 27, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 27, 2017 They make ships bigger and reduce public areas making it harder to get into shows. That is why we are avoiding Vista and will probably do the same with the next size which is larger.

Once you sail it, you'll see that's not what the ship is about, at all. Vista has more "toys." Oasis has no water slides or ropes course. I thought the ship felt much more like it was geared towards a bit older crowd. With wine bars, champagne lounges, lots of shows, quiet central park with string music, etc. I think you'll end up finding it's much more geared towards your age group than you think. I hope you write a review, love it or hate it, would be an interesting read I'm sure.

That is why we are avoiding Vista and will probably do the same with the next size which is larger. The issue with Carnival is that they don't make the ships bigger, thus the need to reduce the public areas :) I think the new LNG ships from Carnival, I think 180,000GT - could actually solve this issue and may be a step in the right direction. That's a very large ship. I'm looking forward to seeing what they offer with the new designs. You will notice they are finally dumping the terrible Fincantieri builder. It's going to be a big departure from the existing ships, I think. My only concern would be the initial specs are a little troubling and it sounds crowded. Carnival new ship is 180,000GT and 5,200 passengers at double occupancy. Harmony of the Seas is 225,000GT and 5,400 passengers at double occupancy. That's a lot less space for nearly the same passenger load for Carnival. But I'll wait and see what they come up with before passing judgment. LaFrimaire Posted July 27, 2017 #18 Share Posted July 27, 2017 I'm curious about an Oasis size ship but not sure want to deal with the crowds or the cost. As some others noted, if Carnival did one, hope they update some of their design layouts, like the smoky casinos in middle of ship or how the galley impedes traffic flow in done dress. Liked the size of the Vista and s lot of new features, but some of the spaces were a bit weird. Like the Alchemy bar and main theater. Thought I'd never say this but the new interior design is almost too tasteful and bland, missing some of that old Carnival over-the- top-ness. A bigger ship would be cool but doesn't need to be Oasis size. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
sammee Posted July 27, 2017 #19 Share Posted July 27, 2017 Everytime a thread about bigger ships come up, all I can think of is: Molly Brown: Hey, uh, who thought of the name Titanic? Was it you, Bruce? J. Bruce Ismay: Yes, actually. I want to convey sheer size, and size means stability, luxury, and above all, strength. Rose DeWitt Bukater: Do you know of Dr. Freud, Mr Ismay? His ideas about the male preoccupation with size might be of particular interest to you. Sorry, couldn't resist. We all cruise and choose ships for different reasons. I'm happy with just about any ship. Fantasy sized ships were nice and comfy, Pride was roomy and comfy. Been on Explorer and Grandeur, but haven't tried the bigger ships. If the price and timing were right, I may give them a whirl, but it's not a "have to" for me. Of course we have cruisers that want bigger, newer, more choices, etc. That's what makes them happy too. I was beginning to wonder if anyone would mention that Carnival does have much larger ships on order. We should start seeing more information about the AIDAnova soon and that may give us a little more idea about the amount of passenger space in this class of ship even if we have to wait to see Carnival's interpretation of this class. Carnival has already ordered two 180,000GT ships to be built by the same builder as the Oasis class so bigger ships are coming.

I could stay in the hotel at the Houston Galleria the night before a cruise if I want that experience. All modern cruise ships from the major lines are floating shopping malls. Clearly, you haven't actually sailed on the larger ships. People that makes these ridiculous comments just come off as a cranky old man. "Who wants a computer in their pockets?" "Why do we need color on our TV!!!" "Who wants to ride on a floating shopping mall? (while sailing on a floating shopping mall)" Maybe you would prefer a Bass Tracker and a six pack?
