Target Posted June 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2004 We are booked for one night in the 1 bedroom suite at the Mount McKinley Lodge. The room is at the top of the main lodge there. Does anyone have any pictures or comments about this suite? I am curious..... Thanks! PharmacyRx Posted June 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We stayed there May 28th this year and my husband and I both loved it. It is remote and the ambiance is very "Alaska". The Great Room has a dead on view of Mt McKinley, the restaurants are good, the decor warm and cozy. The rooms are separate from the actual lodge and we were in the furthest building with a walk to the lodge of about 100 yeards. The area has many hiking trails about the property, a fitness center and hot tubs. The rooms are clean and ours had a sitting area with couch and chairs. No complaints. Would definitely recommend this lodge.
Target Posted June 17, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Thanks for the info! I splurged (it is for our 20th wedding anniversary) for the one bedroom suite that is located on top of the main lodge. We aren't doing any excursions from there, so we can just hang out and enjoy the scenery. spongerob Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We had a 1-bedroom suite in one of the outlying buildings. It was fantastic. There was a living room with big-screen TV, large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a separate room for the commode. The bed was large and very comfy. We really enjoyed the relaxed pace at the McKinley lodge. It was so nice to just kick back and watch for views of Mt. McKinley out on the veranda while enjoying an adult beverage or two. The dining room was excellent, as I recall. jrobinso Posted June 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We stayed 2 nights at the McKinley lodge as part of our land tour 2 years ago. It is remote and nice, but since my husband and I had read that there were nearby hiking trails we didn't make reservations for any excursions. We found that 2 of the trails were closed (because of large animals in the area) and the one trail was short and only about 30 mins. We were sorry we didn't book anything to do. We sat in the lobby and played cards and attended a slide show. If we do it again we would definately book and excursion at this location) As for the food at the restaurant, it was okay.... but the service was the worst we had on the entire trip. However, I think that was just the one individual involved not the entire wait staff. One night without an excursion should be okay, but there really wasn't too much to do there. It is beautiful though, and we did get a glimpse of Mt Mckinley for about 45 mins before the cloud cover came back. Have a great time. Target Posted June 17, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We are arriving in Anchorage off the ship on Saturday around noon, renting a car and heading toward McKinley. We are planning to stop along the way to sightsee. We will probably get to the lodge in the late afternoon and have some dinner there. The evening will be mysterious and hopefully full of romance. The next morning, we will have breakfast there, enjoy the view for a short while and then head back towards Anchorage and points south. We are scheduled to fly out Monday, at 1am, so our time on Sunday will be exploring by car. We are not hikers by nature (my husband can't swim) and we don't want to book an airplane ride because we are doing a glacier landing during the cruise ($$). We just like to enjoy nature in general while we are together... coiran Posted June 17, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We stayed at the Mckinley lodge for two nights as part of a land package in 2002 - it is a nice place - rooms are in a series of separate buildings and very nice. The main lodge has a wonderful view of Mt. Mckinley (if there are no clouds) which is rare. The food and service was very good albeit somewhat expensive.
