GUT2407 Posted October 11, 2022 #8026 Share Posted October 11, 2022 Well, had to see spine specialist today. It was great ‘cause Mrs G bought me Harry’s for being a good little vegemite. Tiger for me, Vegetable Tiger with no gravy for her, then because I was being extra good Pastie with Cheese Sauce for afters, but they were out of Custard Tarts.

But also said, because I couldn’t give you any help. Also said the pain will improve, but also said it could take years, but also said it shouldn’t get any worse, so a little good and a little bad

No Miss G (as she used to be) is intolerant, not full blown coeliac, Mrs G is meat intolerant, tries to largely eat Vegan but can get by Vegetarian and once in a pink fit allows herself a little meat and little fried food (her pancreas is to blame). Meanwhile Mr Gut eats what he likes. On a side note Harry has changed his pastry in some way.

On the ships it is generally ok, why I eat mostly at the buffets, wide range, I can pick and choose and ask the chefs. By the way my vet grandaughter told me there are gluten intolerant 🐕, fairly rare but they are out there. Edited October 11, 2022 by NSWP

Strewth we must have owned 30 or so dogs over the years (we used to breed and show) but that was nothing compared to some we have known, one friend had about 100 Doberman’s and a few other breeds, another would have had 30+ Dogs of various breeds at any one time. So there aren’t many conditions we haven’t seen in dogs over the years. And most breeds have their own regular condition with the rare ones thrown in from time to time. I think poor Oli has felt abandoned too often, she was dumped as a baby, our daughter got her from a rescue, so she may have felt that was another abandonment, then the daughter had to pass or on to us, she now leaves the room when our daughter arrives and is stand offish with everyone except Maxy, we are lucky they get on so well.

Happy to hear you left the house in something other than an ambulance. I'm sorry to hear that the spine specialist wasn't very encouraging. On the plus side you did get Harry's while you were out. Thanks Lyle, concentrating now on less falls, probable means more wheelchair, which means a ramp and probably a chair that Mrs G can get in and out of the car by herself, and on the dream list is a lifter to get me off the floor if and when needed without needing ambos. But small steps.

I have a wheelchair, but it is too heavy for Mrs Gut on her own, was fine when I could help her get it in and out of the car, but that is just not possible anymore and the lighter power chairs get the higher the price, and don’t start me on the NDIS. The ramp isn’t going to be a real hurdle we don’t think in fact the TAS kids at her school are looking at building me one. There are so many things in the system that make me shake my head in wonder. This year alone I have had the Ambos out at least 12 times just to get me off the ground total billing’s over $20K not counting keeping an ambulance out of circulation for probably 1-2 hours each time, many times two ambulances once six, on two occasions they have used a pneumatic device that costs about $10K but will health fund, NDIS etc provide one we could just use saving all that time and money, not in your Nellie. Then because I had to stop working the cost of my medications went up between 3 and 8 times. It is just so crazy. This is the contraption they use, it lays totally flat and then slowly inflates to raise me to a fitting position, than raises to the same height as a wheelchair seat.
Blackduck59 Posted October 11, 2022 #8039 Share Posted October 11, 2022 @GUT2407Hopefully it will be easy to retrofit a ramp in your house. If I remember correctly you recently bought a new Highlander, I hope that it has turned out to be easy to get in and of. It must be difficult surrendering to health issues that steal your independence. If that requires a new lightweight easy stow wheelchair then get the best you can for yourself. Why would your medication go up. Wouldn't you be entitled to a Commonwealth Low Income Health Care Card, or does your wife working make you ineligible? RAV4 (which may be your highlander) it’s pretty good I just wish I’d gone to the Kluger, slightly bigger with more adjustments on the passenger seat, didn’t matter when we bought it as I never used the passenger seat, but when I gave up driving we found that for me the passenger seat is a touch high (drivers seat has three memories and adjustable about 10 ways) the Lexus had power and memory both sides and we just didn’t consider that within six months of buying the RAV I would decide that I shouldn’t be driving at all. Thanks for the correction, yes the RAV4 is a RAV4 here. I think our Highlander is the Kluger in OZ, It is unfortunate when health issues force hard choices. You ordered your RAV4 right abought the time we got our Subaru Forrester. While the Forrester has a power driver seat I honestly don't know if it has a power passenger seat. Perhaps someone could customize the seat to better suit your needs. Best of luck finding cost effective solutions to suit your needs now and in the future. Daughter has a Kluger and I freaked a bit a few days after injuring my knee when she came to pick us up for a four hour trip to Warrnambool as I didn't think I would be able to get in and out of it but all was good as there was more room to move. I soon learnt the easiest way in and out as long as someone was waiting to give me or take my crutches.

And please other than the unadjustable passenger seat we love the RAV4, ours is a Hybrid and the fuel economy is incredible, if we do go to the Kluger it will be another Hybrid I expect we may take a couple of test drives next school holidays. When we bought our first Lexus looked at the hybrid but there was a $10k premium now it is only $2k, had it about 18 months and it has aleardy just about repaid the extra, plus they will give us all but the same money on a trade in as we paid, demand is so high. 1
Rare arxcards Posted October 12, 2022 #8049 Share Posted October 12, 2022 A bit of the potato cake bit from back a few pages. Just spotted at our local Coles. A little bit pricey, but I have been looking for a supermarket frozen potato scallop for ages. Will let you know later how my mini plain and s&v scallops go. Apparently, this company has sprung-up as a good news story. https://whymeatcompany.com.au/our-products/ I am not likely to convert to the vegan pretend-meat pies though.
