MawganTr Posted September 3, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 3, 2017 Looks like a good start to our first Cunard cruise! Looked on Manchester airports departures info at 4am to see if our 8.30am was going on time it said CANCELLED!!! Went to the airport time changed to 13.40pm .Technical problems we are told and they have borrowed a bigger plane and we have open seating. Not too optimistic about going even then. Looks like the ship will be waiting for us and will probably be nearer midnight when we get there. Sent from my SM-J320FN using Forums mobile app I'm intrigued by open seating as I thought they had to balance the plane. Our (new) friends that we met on board flew from MAN on 19 Aug to Trieste with Titan and had a 767 half full so after take off they spread out for space. The other TItan plane had real hassle checking in at MAN on that day. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rare Solent Richard Posted September 4, 2017 #27 Share Posted September 4, 2017 My word, what an exciting Saturday judging by the contributions. A friend of mine on the Cunard Fanzine disembarked Queen Victoria on Saturday and flew to Manchester via Frankfurt where they were delayed due to 'Thunderstorms'. No doubt Cunard would have been blamed had the lady not been a Cunard loving pragmatist.

Sent from my SM-J320FN using Forums mobile app Well we eventually arrived a little before midnight but some were a little later and met by what appeared to be about half of the ships crew brandishing glasses of champagne and many apologies! The flight was ok and we had plenty of room on the larger plane. Some of the passengers would have not been happy because there was no bar onboard. The hot meal promised turned out to be a bacon panini. I lost count of how many apologies were made onboard the plane for the delay. Two crew from Titan were sent on the flight which was and Euro Atlantic aircraft. There was a full buffet waiting for us at the ship but only after we had been whisked off to do the muster drill! We all received $100 obs each and a bottle of wine as an apology. This was our first Cunard cruise. Once we settled in we really enjoyed the cruise and the ship was lovely. The return journey home today was again quite stressful. Cunard bus dropped us off at the airport but then told us they would take the luggage into the terminal and we had to wait over half an hour for it to arrive. Venice airport was extremely busy with thousands of passengers all trying to get through passport control at once with no real queuing system in place and people nearly missing flights. Our Jet2 flight was on time. When we arrived at Manchester airport not any better with unbelievable queues at immigration. I think I need another holiday now to recover! If I decide to do another flycruise I will make sure it isnt with a Titan flight. Sent from my SM-T580 using Forums mobile app
bluemarble Posted September 9, 2017 #29 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Thanks for following up about this. Sorry to hear things didn't work out the best on the return flight. But I'm glad to hear the cruise went well and that Cunard offered some compensation for the delays getting to the ship.
Host Hattie Posted September 9, 2017 #30 Share Posted September 9, 2017 Thanks very much for reporting back, it's good to hear that the cruise part of your holiday went well. Cunard have fewer Mediterranean fly cruises planned in 2018 and none in 2019, perhaps your experience helps to explain why.

I think you may be right. We spoke to quite a few people who had previous bad experience with Titan and the Cunard charter flights. It seems that the logistics of fly cruises is much more work for Cunard than sailing from Southampton where they can be more in control. Tangoqueen Posted September 10, 2017 #32 Share Posted September 10, 2017 Although we were affected by the return flight last weekend we are very disappointed at lack of fly cruises to the med over the next few summers, and not much on offer to the sunshine from Southampton during the summer holidays. I would have preferred Cunard to source a better chartered flight specialist rather than cut the option out. Titan was ok for us last year as it happens, but we were unlucky this year. With the increased drink prices and lack of choice of itineraries for next year we are finding ourselves looking at alternative cruise lines. If there's a chance that there's a change to the timings of evening shows as indicated by someone on QE then a change will definitely be happening. MidsomerMadness Posted September 11, 2017 #33 Share Posted September 11, 2017 We ŵere on that Titan flight on 2nd Sept, it was a shambolic experience, we had the misfortune of returning on a Titan flight on Saturday as well, hour delay leaving because it was "apparently raining in Manchester" even though we were still in Venice..arrived back in Manchester and the luggage took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive on the belt..I will never travel with Titan again, they are beyond useless. That they and Cunard knew the night before that flight on 2nd September that the flight would be delayed (replacement plane arrived in Manchester 2.30am Saturday morning and crew needed 12 hours rest) yet nobody advised us and they still made us check in at 5.30 am is really not acceptable.....i made my feelings very clear to David Dingle by email whilst sat in T2! The cruise itself was lovely but the getting there and home was just awful!

Did you send complaint to P&O as well as Titan? We will be claiming too. We hadnt heard the bit about the aircraft being at Manchester since 2.30 am! Glad it didnt spoil the cruise for you we really enjoyed it too, the ship was lovely just a shame about the shambles getting there and back. It didnt set off to a good start when I nearly choked on my branflakes at 4am on seeing the flight said cancelled on Manchester Airport website. Upon our return I emailed again to voice our displeasure at Titan Airways in general (not to David Dingle). I had a response on board in relation to my email to David Dingle, but no response to my other email (doubt i will get one as it was more a request)
