Feeling a bit screwed over by RC, Irma safety/risk issue and no-refund, greed?

Hope his father-in-law has a full recovery. The house can be replaced; our health is a blessing. Where in Orlando area are they and do they need help? I'm in the Winter Springs area on east side of Orlando.

Not sure of the exact location. Yesterday he said the family in Florida could not get gas to visit. Still no power and communication is very sketchy. I'm not sure even my daughter-in-law has all the correct details and is soooo upset.

Son's e mail is reed nate at g mail dot com. He is in Va. Thank You.

I've texted my son with no answer, he may be driving in DC traffic.

You can reach me at screen name 41269 at aol dot com.

Got a little worried when it seemed like you went silent for a little while. Glad to hear everything is OK.

Not entirely OK.

My lovely wife is in CK as we speak and I'm looking at thawed out shrimp for dinner. Bella's happy I stayed. [emoji2]

My son's in-laws are in the Orlando area. Part of the roof collapsed on his father-in-law who is currently in ICU with a shattered pelvis.

Our son and new daughter-in-law's honeymoon has been cancelled as the hotel in Key West is not there anymore. He's been on the phone for four hours trying to get his money back.:loudcry::loudcry:

Prayers to anyone affected.:halo:

Prayers for everyone. Hope he has a fast recovery.

I have family in Orlando as well. All are safe (no power yet, but doing OK) and one is without work for who knows how long because her workplace got badly damaged.

Does this include the Red Cross?

They are a non-profit organization which is completely different than a for profit business, but even in their case, they still have to bring in more money than they spend, so they need more people to donate if they need more funds going out.

Well, I'll be sending a check directly to my son's in-law's. That way I'm assured 100% goes to a good cause.

That's generous of them.

Biker, who won't believe he will get 10 points from the previous Oasis sailing till they post.

Didn't Liberty get the extra.

FWIW, the 4 day MJ cruise that left on the 4th may not return until the 18th. [emoji33]

I'm sorry, but is hard for me to be sympathetic. If everyone would read the contract, they will see the lines are doing exactly what they said they would in the contract, actually, they are doing more than they have to. Insurance is also for these circumstances. Not planning properly is not RCCL's fault. IT IS HURRICANE season, choosing to sail during the season without insurance, and with unrealistic expectations, is just not smart. But to then blame the cruise lines, is just ludicrous in my opinion. And to be honest, if I pay for insurance, why should someone who did not, get the same benefits?? That makes no sense to me. Flame away, LOL! (I won't read it anyway) But it's the truth......

I was on the MJ and all had the opportunity to disembark a day early on the 7th if they wanted. Were told if not they would be sailing until possibly Tuesday so the 18th would be a long time! Especially since another cruiser said that there would be no casino, no entertainment, pools obviously weather dependant, and only buffets open. This was second hand though so looking forward to hearing from someone who stayed on. This person also said only about 50 people elected to but again, I can't speak to the authenticity.

Read this one please -- 38 cruises (most RCCL except a couple Disney). Lots of September cruises. (We normally cruise Jan/Feb and Sept plus some spring break if the kids/grands are available.) Never bought insurance. This is the first time that we have found it difficult to get to San Juan for our cruise. (We normally fly standby thanks to a pilot stepson.) This time we had to buy tickets to make sure we make it. The price was $250 for both of us. Compare that to the cost of buying insurance for all of these trips and see how we have come out. Not buying insurance: "Just not smart." I think we have done okay!

I don't think most people are saying you need to buy insurance, but if you don't, just don't expect everybody else to cover your loss, which is what some are suggesting. Everybody gets insurance, some buy it, some insure themselves.

You are playing with fire. A medi vac can cost upwards of $50,000.00. Glad things worked out for you.

Excellent statement. Kudos for writing it. We believe the same thing. Greedy people only thoughts about themselves. We and others are worried about our friends in St Thomas and St Maartin that have lost everything. Just do NOT TRAVEL during hurricane season and it should stop the whiners.

That was Tuesday the 12th.

I don't know, divide total amount of cruise related medi vacs by Total cruisers. Most likely a very small percentage.

My rule is "don't gamble with more than you can afford to lose." If I pay $150 for insurance, and don't need it, I've only lost $150. That's a loss I can afford. If I have to be flown off of the ship for a medical emergency, it can run between 50 and 100k. I can't afford that loss. Even if the odds are in my favor, it's a gamble I'm not willing to take - because I can't afford to lose.
