marmitecat Posted November 9, 2017 #51 Share Posted November 9, 2017 That's quite right, but there is a difference between the situations. I think the difference with ports being changed and this is that ports is probably (or at least should be) down to external influences, such as weather. This one is entirely the choice of Cunard. The unavoidable is unavoidable. This one was avoidable, or at least should have been had it been for Cunard's irresistible desire to make a profit twice over. And then not to communicate with those who've paid a dare to complain??
robbie_3 Posted November 9, 2017 #52 Share Posted November 9, 2017 I'm feeling ornery lately, but in my opinion a late departure, even with certain parts of the ship unavailable in the meantime, doesn't compare to an itinerary where the ports get jumbled or dropped close to departure. Your quite right. We are chilled about the change in the Caribbean itinerary, we just love being aboard with Cunard and looking forward to the trip so a few hours lost from a few areas of the ship on one particular day really is pretty much meaningless to us. davef65 Posted November 9, 2017 #53 Share Posted November 9, 2017 > We are on that cruise (actually the round trip You know, I think at least one other passenger who hasn't received the email is on a back-to-back. Are you booked on M745, or some other cruise number? I'm wondering if Cunard only sent the "premier email" to those booked specifically on M745. We are booked on M743B and I got an Email from them yesterday - they must be reading cruise critic after all.
frankp01 Posted November 9, 2017 #54 Share Posted November 9, 2017 > they must be reading cruise critic after all. I sent an email to one of the customer service managers that I tracked down, yesterday morning. I specifically pointed out that those on trips other than M745 hadn't received the message. I wonder if that helped shake it loose? Sent from my HTC 10 using Forums mobile app
bluemarble Posted November 10, 2017 #55 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Thank you, John. I'm still not totally convinced, but I'll be very happy to be proven wrong. It would offer some wonderful photo ops for the QM2. I'm not totally convinced either. I happened to stumble upon that page on the Cunard web site that tends to indicate the stars might attend the premier via a google search. I can't seem to find it by actually navigating the Cunard web site itself. Based on the URL, that page is part of "The Cunard Experience" section of their web site. But I can't find that specific page by following the link on the home page to that section of the site, just the page about entering the contest for chance to attend the premier. So take it for what that's worth, I guess. Regards, John
frankp01 Posted November 10, 2017 #56 Share Posted November 10, 2017 There are a lot of "orphan" pages on the Cunard site. I knew there was a page describing the NYT-crossword puzzle themed activities on that same trip. I finally had to use a Google search to find it. But what is the problem exactly? You are on the ship, which is wonderful, the bars and restaurant will be open, as will most of the amenities of the ship. The ship will leave late, which may give splendid views, but it won't arrive late in Southampton, because it can go a bit more quickly. In fact you may get the chance to see what she can do, which rarely happens nowadays. OK, the shops and casino may be closed on the first night, but you can waste your money later on. Jane I really can't see any reason for discontent.

You are on the ship, which is wonderful, the bars and restaurant will be open, as will most of the amenities of the ship. I've not seen anything from Cunard that states that all of the bars will be open for passenger use, particularly those on decks 2 & 3. With the Queens Room and both theaters being used for the premier, the amenities actually available for all of the 2500 or so passengers are somewhat limited. frankp01 Posted November 10, 2017 #59 Share Posted November 10, 2017 > I've not seen anything from Cunard that states that all of the bars will be open for passenger use But neither has there been any official word as to what rooms will be closed, has there? So far it's all supposition. Sent from my HTC 10 using Forums mobile app
marmitecat Posted November 11, 2017 #60 Share Posted November 11, 2017 At a guess, those who 'can't see any reason for discontent' will be those who have not paid to be on board for this trip. They may well be unable to 'see any reason for discontent' that Cunard has simply refused to talk about this situation with me so far, despite using three separate channels of communication. That refusal to communicate - for me - indicates there really is a reason to feel discontent and Cunard know that, so are avoiding the issue. English Rose Posted November 11, 2017 #61 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Oh my goodness - this is a few hours of a whole week. I am sure everyone will survive in pure luxury and comfort. How lucky are we. And yes, I have paid to be on this trip and I consider myself extremely fortunate indeed!
Rare babs135 Posted November 11, 2017 #62 Share Posted November 11, 2017 Finally got around to reading this thread. It seems to me that the main grumble is lack of communication from Cunard, either to individuals or to all the passengers. Common courtesy would be (at the very least) to inform the passengers which areas of the ship will be closed to them and for how long. And yes, part of me would be cross that I was denied a run of the whole ship, but... After that, 7 days sailing on the QM2, how wonderful. Wish I could be on board. Host Hattie Posted November 16, 2017 Author #64 Share Posted November 16, 2017 Cunard have posted this - We’re proud to announce that we’ll be welcoming Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast for the world premiere of The Greatest Showman on board the world’s greatest ocean liner, Queen Mary 2. P.T Barnum the inspiration of the film sailed on Cunard ships in the 19th Century, and we have him to thank for bringing a touch of glamour to the entertainment on our voyages. MarkBearSF Posted November 16, 2017 #65 Share Posted November 16, 2017 To be frank, does anyone seriously expect Cunard to be forthcoming? From my experience on these boards and interaction with the Purser's Desk, no response seems to be Cunard's communication policy.
BobBranst Posted December 2, 2017 #66 Share Posted December 2, 2017 Our long time TA called yesterday to wish us Bon Voyage. During our conversation, we mentioned the lack of details that have been forthcoming to passengers regarding the movie premier. He called his contact at Cunard and got some answers. It appears that Cunard's lack of information is primarily because the event was negociated by Carnival corporate rather than by Cunard and many at Cunard were not kept in the loop of information. According to the information I received, the QR will only be closed to passengers during the time of reception and the attendees will be escorted by security to the RC theater for the closed event. The Chart Room, Golden Lion, and most other public areas on decks 2 & 3 should be open for passengers to use during the event. Hopefully this information is accurate. bluemarble Posted December 7, 2017 #69 Share Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) I just received an email from Cunard inviting me to watch a feed of the movie premiere event "live from the Red Carpet on Queen Mary 2" tomorrow beginning at 5:30pm local time. The link provided in the email is to the URL "cruise.cunard.com/pub/cc" plus a very long parameter of seemingly random characters. Not sure, but I suppose that parameter included in the URL may personally identify me as an "invitee" to watch the live stream. Interestingly, when I click on the link now (a day early) it sends me to Cunard's facebook page. I'm curious, so I imagine I'll be watching at least some of the event tomorrow. Underwatr Posted December 8, 2017 #70 Share Posted December 8, 2017 Facebook Live is a cheap way to live stream any event so I wouldn't be surprised if the red carpet event is on their Facebook page.
frankp01 Posted December 8, 2017 #71 Share Posted December 8, 2017 The Look Hotel, which is just a few blocks from the terminal, tweeted this, earlier this evening: The Queen Mary 2 cruise ship will be sponsoring fireworks tomorrow night, north of Governor's Island at 7:15PM! Come out to Red Hook and watch them with us! I hope I can find a vantage point for capturing a shot of the fireworks over the ship. Didn't see this post beforehand, but I did watch most of the approximately 90-minute Facebook Live feed from QM2 on Cunard's facebook page.
