sanmarcosman Posted November 2, 2017 #26 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Yup yup. The key is not going past medium rare. Yes and the link I posted this morning is a quick read that explains why folks can get a tough one and what the butcher needs to do correctly to ensure you get a tender steak. Re-reading the comments makes me doubt anyone took a look but not everyone who reads a thread posts to it so I hope some folks were helped with this thread. Hats off to the OP for asking a good question.
buggerbean Posted November 2, 2017 #27 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Never had a good one, no matter what 'doneness' is ordered. Wouldn't go near one on any Carnival ship!
CruiseHealing Posted November 2, 2017 #28 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I always get it on the first night with peppercorn sauce. My last cruise I ordered it twice, as well as DW. Bake potato with lots of butter, bacon & sour cream. Now I'm cruising!!!
riclop Posted November 2, 2017 #29 Share Posted November 2, 2017 ? I love steak and might just get one or two every night if they are tasty. They are not the best.
Snowbaby369 Posted November 2, 2017 #30 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I tried it this past January on Fasinacion. Medium rare. It had the texture of liver , yuk. Another diner at our table also had one ...she raved over it. It all depends on your taste. We BBQ year round at home...even in snow storms. We have steak once a week, so I don't usually order it when I am out. The good thing about ordering it on a cruise, if you don't like it, and you're still hungry you can get something else. Computer Nerd Posted November 2, 2017 #31 Share Posted November 2, 2017 ? I love steak and might just get one or two every night if they are tasty. Yes, I have them any night that I don't like what's on the rest of the menu. I enjoy them very much myself.
gojags00 Posted November 2, 2017 #32 Share Posted November 2, 2017 My husband had it every nite on the sunshine in September, medium rare, and LOVED it! Sent from my iPad using Forums
pe4all Posted November 2, 2017 #33 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I find them to be literally hit or miss each time I order it. Doesn't stop me, though!!
RHilla619 Posted November 2, 2017 #34 Share Posted November 2, 2017 A bunch of times, it's my go to if nothing else on the menu grabs my eye that evening. Order it a grilled level lower than you prefer, I've found them to come out a tiny bit over-grilled so going a level down should have the steak right where you prefer it. LucyB. Posted November 2, 2017 #35 Share Posted November 2, 2017 DH & DS ordered it different times on Elation. One Med rare, the other Med. Both were perfectly cooked. My DS said it's one of the best steaks he's ever had. I tasted it & thought it was decent. My advice, is the less grill time the better, but I like all my steaks Med rare. Try it. If you don't like it, get something else.
stevefrisco Posted November 2, 2017 #36 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I'm not a steak or steakhouse person but I think it's pretty dang good. I would never order it with my father present because he says it's an inferior cut and knows a lot about meat and cattle. On my last cruise though, my friend whose family also has a cattle operation tried it one night and loved it. My uncle is a picky eater and literally orders it every night (to my father's chagrine which is why I don't get it hahaha).
meatloafsfan Posted November 2, 2017 #37 Share Posted November 2, 2017 My father gets one every night in the MDR (plus something else - so if he doesn't like his "something else" he has his steak). Of course, the best steak included in your cruise cost is the filet included at brunch with the steak and eggs
rainbowflag Posted November 2, 2017 #38 Share Posted November 2, 2017 My father gets one every night in the MDR (plus something else - so if he doesn't like his "something else" he has his steak). It looks like your father enjoyed his "something else" too because he got some on his shirt. :D He knows how to enjoy mealtime on cruises that's for sure. Joebucks Posted November 2, 2017 #39 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I order it once every cruise. It's steak dinner at no additional cost that isn't half bad. I'll take it!
Chefaleslie Posted November 2, 2017 #40 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Try it with the Bearnaise sauce. I like a flat iron it has a bigger flavour then a filet, also we have a mouth and teeth so we can chew stuff like a big cut of steak. I'm looking forward to it on my next cruse. horsegal Posted November 2, 2017 #41 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I know I am in the minority here but I like my steak well done... I know I know, it kills my husband and father in-law when I get it well done. However every steak I have had well done on carnival has been very good, nice and juicy and tender. We have done 7 carnival Cruise and I have done steak at least once or twice in reach cruise. My husband likes his medium rare and he always enjoyed his as well. evandbob Posted November 2, 2017 #42 Share Posted November 2, 2017 In 33 Carnival cruises, I haven't tried a flat iron steak once. I've seen it served at my MDR table to other diners, and it just doesn't appeal to me. I save my steak order for a filet mignon at the Steakhouse every cruise instead. starraz Posted November 2, 2017 #43 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I ordered one medium rare on my last cruise on the Miracle and it was very tender and delicious.

jennas_mum Posted November 2, 2017 #45 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I usually get it 2-3 nights during a 7 day cruise and find it really good. I usually get it medium rare. Donna
Quilcruisers Posted November 3, 2017 #46 Share Posted November 3, 2017 My husband is a very picky eater and has a flat iron steak on nights that he doesn't have a taste for other dishes. He likes his steak well done and never has a complaint about the steak on the cruise. Quite often, he will have a steak and another entree for dinner. As picky an eater as he is, he raves about the food in the mdr. He is very hard to please and we eat out often. That says a lot about the food. Rare shark&minnow Posted November 3, 2017 #49 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Eric loves the flat iron steak! He orders one along with most of his dinners :) Sometimes it is better than others, but for the most part he says it's pretty darn good! I think he orders it rare which usually makes it show up med/rare.
The4Cruisers Posted November 3, 2017 #50 Share Posted November 3, 2017 I eat one or two flatiron steaks each cruise. They're food. Nothing special. But not bad either. The fillet used for steak and eggs in the MDR is a fabulous piece of meat!
