milford7355 Posted November 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2017 I know this may be a crappy question-----butt, What is the quality of the bathroom tissue they provide? Is it recommended to bring my own high quality bio-degradable supply. Maybe a silly question, however, extremely important to me. Thanks

Rare Essiesmom Posted November 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Standard institutional too thin. Bring your own Charmin if so desired. It used to be thought they had to use special paper so a not to stop up the system, but that was debunked by CC's resident engineer. EM

evandbob Posted November 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Resident Engineer Chengkp had an answer to this question that was surprising to me, now if I can only find the link to it......if I can't find the link, he actually said it was ok to use some other brands of TP. OCruisers Posted November 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 3, 2017 The toilet paper and tissues on ships are "marine quality". Don't take you own and chance stopping up the plumbing. ;)
kc58ab Posted November 3, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2017 The quality isn't quality at all. Thin and rough. The kleenex they provide in the bathroom would work better... Not sure if that is safe to use for the plumbing someone else will have to give the expertise on that. sfaaa Posted November 3, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2017 You can always use your smooth hands if the paper quality is too rough and thin.
firefly333 Posted November 3, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 3, 2017 I was told the tp and tissues were made to dissolve in septic systems. Regular charmin is not made for septic systems. Unless you are going to buy paper that easily dissolves please dont imo. I live in a apt built in the 50s with old pipes and even regular tp here can stop up my toilet. takes up to 3 days to go on down by itself. luckily i have 2 toilets, but make sure you dont bring regular charmin if you care about stopping up the pipes. It happens a lot on ships, pipes stopping up because some people put in things not made to dissolve. all grocery stores sell tp and klenex made for septic systems and it says right on the pkg which is which. maryred Posted November 3, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Take your own but ask for the bio-hazard bags they use for diapers and put the used paper in there.
Blackjack22 Posted November 3, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Take your own but ask for the bio-hazard bags they use for diapers and put the used paper in there. Anyone who does this is antisocial. Don't even go saying it's a medical necessity because it's not. My ancestors used pine cones and tree bark and when my other ancestors arrived on their genocidal quest, they commented how terrible the European hygeine practices were. chengkp75 Posted November 3, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 3, 2017 The quality of the toilet paper is the cheapest they can find, same as all the lines. The paper provided is not "marine quality". In 42 years, I've never had a clogged toilet from "improper" toilet paper. Bring your own if that floats your boat. While there are toilet papers that are designated for "septic systems" such that they will dissolve more quickly, the flow rate through the ship's sanitation system (800-2000 metric tons/day (200,000-500,000 gallons/day), compared to your home at around 200 gallons/day, it really doesn't matter what toilet paper is used. Ships also have macerators to chew up any paper in the waste flow, unlike your home. Having said that, there is a major difference between toilet paper and facial tissues on one hand, and cosmetic, baby, or toilet "wipes" on the other. Toilet paper and facial tissue uses "pressed" paper fibers to make the paper, and this will dissolve in time. Wipes and paper towels use "woven" fibers, and in some cases plastic fibers to create strength, and these will not break down, and will likely cause blockages in the vacuum piping. ultrafighter Posted November 3, 2017 #15 Share Posted November 3, 2017 For what it's worth... I consider myself to be a TP snob, and I still didn't think the ship paper was bad. Definitely not my beloved Charmin, but I didn't spend the week wishing I'd brought my own.

winddawn Posted November 3, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Wow. This is an interesting thread indeed. I hate Carnival's extremely cheap TP. I'm glad to learn normal non-cheap TP is acceptable. Writing myself a note to pack good TP for my next Carnival cruise.........
riffatsea Posted November 3, 2017 #20 Share Posted November 3, 2017 We always travel with our own toilet paper. DH has a very sensitive body! We are platinum now on Carnival and have never had an issue with the toilet being clogged!

Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app You can bring them, and you can use them, but you can't flush them. Use the sanitary napkin disposal bag. Biodegradable or not, they play havoc with vacuum toilet systems. And many products claim to be biodegradable, but they don't say how long it takes to break down. joepeka Posted November 3, 2017 #22 Share Posted November 3, 2017 As often as this topic comes up, and as often as Chief provides his usual authoritative answer, perhaps his responses should become a sticky on one of the appropriate CC boards?
winddawn Posted November 3, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 3, 2017 So it sounds like non-Carnival TP is okay to bring and use, but any kind of wipes are not acceptable to flush. Thanks for the info.
kc58ab Posted November 4, 2017 #24 Share Posted November 4, 2017 I'm thrilled to hear I can bring regular toilet paper aboard without there being issues with the plumbing. SMSACE6 Posted November 4, 2017 #25 Share Posted November 4, 2017 Me thinks there are a lot of very sensitive tushes out there! LOL. IMO, Carnival toilet paper does the job, and I can live with the lack of plushness, for a week or so lol, just me though...to each their own. I have enough to lug aboard with me without worrying about bringing toilet paper.
