Oneluckywoman Posted November 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2017 Hello fellow cruisers! We are doing a cruise on the equinox out of Miami, and then going to ft lauderdale the same day to board the freedom of the seas. We considered renting a car, but using uber seems to be a better option. If anyone has experience with this, or any other suggestions, please share. Thank you. We have never used uber before! helen haywood Posted November 12, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2017 We've gone from North Ft. Lauderdale hotels to Port of Miami and back with Uber and Lyft. No problem at all. About $35ish for two people, total. Car arrived within minutes.
leaveitallbehind Posted November 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2017 We used Uber this past July from FLL to POM and back again for Equinox. The pick up at FLL was about 5 minutes from placing the request and the return from POM was via advance reservation. You cannot pre-reserve from the airports to the port, but you can pre-reserve from the port to the airport. Worked very well in our case and plan to do the same this March again on Equinox. Highly recommend them.

champagne lover Posted November 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2017 We used Uber earlier this year, coming of a cruise in POM and going to hotel in FL, very easy.

shukapaw Posted November 12, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2017 We had a very similar situation a couple years ago. We were completing a cruise out of Miami and starting a new one on the same day out of Ft Lauderdale. I pre-booked (and pre-paid) transportation with a van company. When we disembarked, the van driver escorted us to his van, which was parked in the sun, and told us to stand there while he left. I assume he was looking for more passengers. I was not happy and called the service I'd booked through. They told me that was not how we should have been treated and the van was intended just for us. However, the driver was nowhere to be found. I waited another 5 or 10 minutes and called Uber. I was picked up almost immediately! We were taken to Ft Lauderdale and the total, including a generous tip, was less than the van service charged. Oh yeah, in route to Ft Lauderdale I called the van service and told them I was contacting my credit card company to have the booking charge reversed. They were very apologetic and refunded me immediately. Needless to say, Uber will be my mode of transportation next time. Make sure you install the Uber app on your phone in advance of your trip and link it to your credit card so it is ready to go when you need it Hope this helps, ~Brian
TeaBag Posted November 12, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2017 Last Monday we used Lyft with another couple, from Miami port to a hotel beside Ft Lauderdale airport. Cost was $69.73. We were surprised it was that much but then, there were 6 ships in and things were very busy so it may have taken a bit longer to find us.
helen haywood Posted November 13, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 13, 2017 Our cost of around $35 was for two people. You had four so you must have requested a larger vehicle. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
rsail203 Posted November 13, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 13, 2017 Check with Guest Services. Last year we got off Eclipse in Miami and started a cruise on the Silhouette in Ft. Lauderdale. Celebrity provided a free coach for us and 20 other guests doing the same thing. They also provided transport to two couples who were going on the Oasis OTS. Free to all of us. A nice lady in the hot tub told us about this service, so I'm passing the info on to you. Rich
jody75 Posted November 14, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 14, 2017 Is it safe to use UBER? In London their licence was not renewed due to safety fears that they don't report crime and a failure to vet their drivers properly. Is it any different in the US or are people less concerned as long as it's cheap ?
waterbug123 Posted November 14, 2017 #15 Share Posted November 14, 2017 Make sure you install the Uber app on your phone in advance of your trip and link it to your credit card so it is ready to go when you need it I'd go a step further and suggest that after you do the above, do a short, local trial run with Uber in your hometown, just so you'll be completely familiar with the app and have an atual experience of truly understanding how it works. Preferred mode of transportation when going to / from cruise terminal or when we dont want to drive
