coo359a2 Posted November 20, 2017 #54 Share Posted November 20, 2017 what was the itinerary this cruise? and do you happen to have pictures of menus or patters? im going on a 5 day to roaatan/cozumel in january and there isnt much info on the shorter 5 day cruises Ports were Costa Maya and Cozumel. We are on the 7 Jan 2018 cruise and will be at same ports as you. Formal night had the lobster and one night was surf and turf. We had 3 production shows - Encore, Blame It On The Boogie and Sweet Soul Music.

I was on it for both 5 day cruises and was wondering the same thing! No lobster. Both formal nights had surf and turf (which had shrimp).

voljeep Posted November 20, 2017 Author #58 Share Posted November 20, 2017 It's somewhat an intangible...When we first started cruising, we could care less about the MD. In fact, we kind of avoided them as it seemed they were around on the last night to strong-arm you for a tip. Over time, we have become foodies and enjoy a great meal paired with great wines. When you bring a good wine aboard, or order one from the wine list, you kind of get on the staff's radar, and start getting more interaction from the Head Waiters and MD. Suddenly, special dishes start showing up at your table, or special accommodations are made with your dining reservations. From cruise to cruise, you start meeting the MDs and you know which ones are willing to go the extra mile for you, and which ones are visible no matter where you eat. We have been fortunate enough to have cruised with Neville several times, and I would rank him as the best in the Princess fleet. Extremely personable, and commands the respect of his staff. We are not production show people, so would rather have an outstanding meal followed by a nightcap in vines, where we often run into the MDs and their Head Wait staff after they are done for the night, so we get to know them on a personal basis. I am "Friends" with many of them and other staff on FB. I was able to have some gifts delivered to Carmen in Vines through a friend and got the most wonderful thank you on FB this morning from her! Solid Answer:) Works for you, us, not so much

Agreed - and 'surf and turf' was disgrace to real 'Surf and Turf', sorry the 'filet' was no more than a 1/2 inch thick , and the surf - as you stated - was 3-4 medium sized skrimps, not even a decent prawn:evilsmile:
richsea Posted November 20, 2017 #60 Share Posted November 20, 2017 favorite meal??? - none - but we did not eat in any specialty restaurants. Quik post about doubles - not allowed sitting at a pool bar, dude comes up at 10 in the morning and orders a double Jack on the rocks. Staff says no , but gives him single shot. dude is pissed because 'yesterday, he got doubles and they just swipped the card twice. NO .. dude takes shot away to next table, put down drink, and orders another shot on the rocks. Staff says NO. Staff calls for backup and a head bar dude confronts passenger. Later learned they flagged his account for the rest of the cruise - not sure exactly what that meant Interesting about the doubles. In the past, while on Princess without a drinks package, almost everytime I ordered a Jack on the rocks, the server would ask if I would like a double. Now if you have the package, they won’t serve a double. Just came off a Celebrity sailing where I had the drinks package, and was never refused a double. Also, Celebrity does not have a daily limit with a drinks package that I am aware of.

Not as good a filet as I have had previously on Princess but still ok. As for the discussion about the Maitr d ... He apparently doesn't do a good job with the dress code as far as shorts are concerned. We had breakfast and lunch in MDR in Anytime so it was on deck 6. Dinner on deck 5. I saw them let people in shorts in at dinner when it was not the first nor the last night. I am guessing some of these people had no clue what the code was on Princess and they were escorted right in. Next day at breakfast I asked the hostess on deck 6 what they do and she told me that at dinner they would advise them to wear long pants. Apparently the host on deck 5 doesn't know this. I really don't mind this (cruised on Carnival almost two years ago and even though shorts allowed at dinner hardly anyone was wearing them) because it was an extremely small percent but it just bothered me that they said absolutely nothing to these people. There were many blue cards on these two 5 day sailings so a lot of people who probably just made assumptions as to what was allowed without reading the patters nor the framed "picture" on the wall with the dress code. I'll make an assumption that these people were not trying to "push the envelope" but were just uninformed.
Tedferg Posted November 20, 2017 #62 Share Posted November 20, 2017 Really? Cancel because of some lame piano player? Well that's an overstatement on my part - we would however be supremely disappointed if he was on our cruise.
