Small museum recommendation in Barcelona

We were just in Barcelona in November 2017 and discovered a delightful museum by accident. On our first day post-cruise we went to the National Museum of Catalonian Art in Montjuic. They have a marvelous exhibit of Romanesque art which is what we concentrated on, but there is much else to see there as well.

The next day we headed for the Egyptian Museum -- small, but with wonderful examples of Egyptian art and history. From there we THOUGHT we were headed for the Modern Art Museum but actually we ended up at the Modernisme Museum, a 10-15 minute walk from the Egyptian Museum.

Both were wonderful, but we just loved the Modernisme Museum and were delighted that we'd gone to the wrong place! This is also small -- two floors devoted to art and handicrafts from the late 19th century thru the early 20th. There is a section devoted to Gaudi furniture but also other examples from the period. I highly recommend this gem!

(There was also a very nice little restaurant about a block away that gave us a pasta lunch (large salad first and included a beer) for 8,50 EUR. It was lovely. La Padella, Carrer del Consell de Cent, 313, 08007 Barcelona. Not fancy, but a very pleasant meal with excellent service. We didn't need dinner that night since we'd had such a large lunch around 3pm.

I just noticed in googling that someone else (I think at Trip Advisor) gave this place a rave review ...

Thanks for the recommendation, we will be going to Barcelona for a cruise in the future and this will come in handy.

Thanks for the writeup on the museum.

We've been to Barcelona many times but never visited the museum.

We have a cruise planned for next year which includes Barcelona so I will be sure to check it out.

... El Museu del Modernisme Català (Catalan Modernisme Museum) is indeed a quirky small museum -just over 10,000 sq ft- but a gem for those interested in this art movement. It's very centrally located. Note they've recently rebranded the museum, from Museu del Modernisme Català (MMCAT) to simply Museu del Modernisme. While it's not "as busy" as other museums and attractions, it gets quite a number of visitors, so it's better if you can pre-book (to be on the safe side). Unfortunately, they must have a different marketing manager because this rebranding has seen the English version of the website dropped along the way and now it's only in Catalan -the local language- and Spanish. Not sure it's a smart move taking into account the millions of visitors in the city. Yet...

Anyhow, to prebook tickets online, click on the yellow button where it says "entrades" and you'll see a drop menu with several options, you want to focus either in "Visita Lliure" (DIY visit) or "Visita Guiada" (Guided visit), ignore the rest. Clicking on any of those two options will take you to 4tickets, which is the company handling the online sales. They DO have an English version, so you can follow the purchase from there in English...
