If you are thinking about ordering a RCCL Celebration Cake on-line......

On Caribbean cruises, I've brought rum cakes on board without an issue. Sadly, all the actual rum went to the cargo hold for later.

Thanks. At least I know I can plan to have something made up near the port if I wish, and fetch it when were there.

Sorry about your rum... but at least you got it on the way out ;p

I wonder if they will X-Ray the cake when I carry it on board...

At least you got yours :( daughter's birthday last day of the cruise on the Majesty they just never brought it at all. Waited in line at guest services for 40 minutes just to be told I would get a credit and I never did. Carnival always did a free one on formal night if you told then you were celebrating and always brought our paid one too. Waiting until on board the Oasis next month to order this time.

Haha, we got that same cake last year on the Grandeur (minus the berries and decoration). Just a straight up chocolate cake, not at all like the elegant one in the online photo. The kids dug into it and it was delicious. We brought a picture up to guest services just to let them know that what we received did not at all resemble what we ordered--we just wanted to make sure no one else was disappointed in the future. They handed us a bottle of sparkling wine (not asked for or expected since we ate the cake), but I'm not likely to order a cake online again.

This entire thread is interesting. It appears that this might actually be a real case of bait and switch. Clearly, this particular cake picture has been on the website for ordering for quite some time. People are reporting ordering the exact same one, only to get some version of the sad excuse for a birthday cake that the OP got. It's been reported to GS and to RC and still, nothing is done, either about the picture on the ordering site or the actual cake being delivered.

While I'm sure some find it amusing, I can see where it would be terribly disappointing if someone (like the OP) ordered that beautiful cake for a special person, only to have that pitiful thing delivered. And for $25 no less!

I see this differently. Laugh this up. This is one of the memories that you will be laughing about for years to come. I agree you are entitled to a refund for the bait and switch, but this will be a great memory. The cake tasted good and celebrations are about being surrounded by those you love, not what the cake looked like.

Yes - if the cake was free. Regardless of how tasty it might have been, I would have demanded a refund.

At a restaurant once a long time ago my family was celebrating my birthday. My father's secretary had called and asked me what type of cake I would like. I said lemon. As the cake is brought in everyone starts singing "Happy Birthday" to me. I look down at a chocolate cake with someone else's name on it. What am I to do? Create an awkward scene? I quickly cut into the name that was not mine and gave myself that piece...

Was it the same the cake with roses on top that they show on their website? (either the chocolate or white-chocolate fondant version)

Based on the comments on this thread, I would like to know if the cake they advertise even exists.

I ordered the cake shown on the website back in Sept for my mum who was celebrating her 80th birthday on Independence. From the photos she showed me, she got the exact cake in the web picture and said it was very nice. The only slight hiccup was that it was delivered on embarkation day and not her actual birthday but she didn't mind. She said it kept fresh for several days so she saved a piece for her birthday.

Looks like it's hit-or-miss with the accuracy of the cake ordered off the website.

Wow - that is bad. I got the cake and it was nothing like picture. The one I had cardboard around it. 095d6869ff1cda7a7b663eb7d87ecdf2.jpg

So the supposed decorated sheet of chocolate fondant is cardboard? Odd. At least your cake looks a little bit better than mine, presentation-wise.

It’s not chocolate fondant, it’s actual chocolate. If it comes frozen, they probably wrap the cake in cardboard to keep the chocolate safe.

I think maybe they are supposed to finish the cake on board, because the flowers in the site pic are made out of blown sugar which is extremely fragile and can’t be frozen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen blown sugar flowers on any ship actually.
