crusincouple8 Posted December 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Ok, I originally booked 3 cabins for our family cruise, 2 balconies right next to each other and another one at the back of the ship on the same deck. Then my DIL's mother wanted me to add a room for her and her son. So I booked the room but DIL's mother wanted to be in the same room as her grandkids so we had her put in the room with my son and had my DIL put in room we just booked with her brother. Now DIL's mother cannot pay for the cruise and asked me to cancel. Final payment is 1/2/18 that will be put against my cc unless I cancel. Carnival is telling me that we can't cancel the 1 cabin and move my DIL back to the cabin she started with because of the VIFP numbers. They are saying that in order to do this they have to put my son and DIL in a different cabin on a different deck. I tried to change the names online but was unsuccessful, said I needed to call. Any help to get this done would be greatly appreciated. BTW my personal cruise planner is on vacation until 1/2/18. Help!
springs741 Posted December 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2017 I need a score card...... Are you sure they said VIFP numbers? That would be a factor if the rate code were booked past guest or perhaps a casino offer. Could it be stateroom capacity? You didn't mention if the DIL's mothers son would still be cruising. lcpagejr Posted December 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2017 I too am confused... You originally had 3 cabins on the same deck. Then added a cabin for your DIL's mother and brother. If you cancel one of the cabins....you would be back to way you originally were assuming the brother cancelled as well... 3 cabins. Was the 4th cabin on a different deck? crusincouple8 Posted December 22, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted December 22, 2017 Sorry to confuse. Had 3 cabins booked originally. One with me, my husband, and one grandchild (balcony-deck 7), One with my son, DIL, and two grandchildren, (balcony-deck 7), one with my other son and his husband (balcony-deck 7). I then added a 4th cabin for my DIL's mother and her son (inside-deck 7) but when I added the cabin DIL's mother was put in the 2nd balcony with my son and 2 grandchildren and my DIL and her brother were put into the new cabin (inside-deck 7). They are saying I can't change names in the balcony cabin from DIL's mother to DIL or in the inside from DIL to DIL's mother due to the VIFP numbers. I want to cancel the inside cabin because DIL's mother and her son cannot cruise (or pay).
Rare Manatee Mom Posted December 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 22, 2017 The only reason I know of that a VIFP # would affect the change, is because of the rate code. You might loose that rate, but as long as 1 person is still staying in the cabin you should be able to change the rest of the names before final. If all the names are changing then they won't do it. crusincouple8 Posted December 22, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted December 22, 2017 Thank you all for your replies. I got through to another rep today and they had the names switched around in about 5 minutes. I think the trick was not to mention that I wanted to cancel 1 of the cabins.....lol. Shaded Lady Posted December 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 22, 2017 Glad it worked out for you! Lesson learned, book cabins only for people you're willing to pay for if they bail on you!
crusincouple8 Posted December 22, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted December 22, 2017 I hear you there Shaded Lady. I have learned my lesson. She assured me she would be able to pay. I offer to pay for her and she could pay me back but she would have nothing to do with that....lol

IF the plan was to have the DIL Mother pay her own way ... she can call and make her own reservation and pay with her own credit card. ONCE I was stiffed on a group outing (not a cruise) and I vowed and never have done it again.
crusincouple8 Posted December 23, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted December 23, 2017 CruiseGal999, I just booked the cabin for her, she paid me for the deposit and she is aware that she lost it also. I paid for our cabin and one of my sons cabin and my son will pay me back if he can....if he can't, I am OK with that. I had no intention of paying for any of my DIL's mother cabin, she wanted to go and she though she could afford it. We thought the extra hands for the 2yr old twins that are going would be great. Unfortunately, she works on commission only and it has not been a few good months so she could not afford it. Thank you for your input though. Sorry you got stiffed, that must have been awful. " From your original post, it seemed that all the payments were going to be charged to your credit card.
crusincouple8 Posted December 23, 2017 Author #12 Share Posted December 23, 2017 CruiseGal999, it was my understanding that it would be charged against my credit card as it is the only one that was used for the entire booking as I paid for everything else and the bookings were linked together. I did pay her deposit with my credit card and then she paid me back that amount a few weeks later.
