MommaET Posted January 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Ok going on our first cruise in t minus 5 days and wondering if you can use the hub app without purchasing internet to see the fun times and such. Don’t plan on using the chat feature as only one of us is going to purchase the internet.
Jeffy294 Posted January 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Yes, you can. Does not cost anything to use it for the Funtimes and ship info. Just make sure you follow the directions on connecting so that you don't get charges on your cell phone bill.

originalgeek Posted January 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Is that without using the internet Correct. Everyone in your party can download the app right now (easier on your home high-speed internet if you have it) and even use the countdown timer if you want to see it every day - lol, although at T-5 and counting you probably already are excited enough. Once on board, put your phones in airplane mode and then turn WiFi back on. fire up the app and enjoy fun times, menus, ship maps, sign and sail account views and more. You don't have to buy any internet package to use anything on the hub BUT if you do decide to use its' chat feature it would just be 5 bucks per phone for the entire cruise. That is all outside any internet package you may get.

Schoifmom Posted January 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Correct. Clarification: You need to turn the WiFi back on, because you will need to connect to the ship's WiFi signal in order to use the HUB app's functionality. There is no charge for this :)
CajunCruiseDreamer Posted January 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I found that while I had downloaded the hub at home, it for some reason had an issue connecting, so I uninstalled and downloaded it before we left the port. No issues after downloading again. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Rare momin05 Posted January 13, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2018 $5.00 per phone per day The chat feature is not $5 per phone per day. It is a one-time charge of $5 and works for the entire cruise. Well worth it if you are traveling with a group. It doesn’t always work exactly 100 percent...texts may not he instantaneous all the time, but at times it works like a charm.
Squirly Posted January 13, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2018 On the Conquest end of October none of us had to pay the 5 bucks. It didn’t always work great but it has made finding someone and cruising while staying in different rooms much better. teknoge3k Posted January 13, 2018 #15 Share Posted January 13, 2018 $5.00 per phone per day As momin05 stated, this is incorrect information. It is NOT $5 per phone, per day. The Hub App is free to use and you can do everything on it EXCEPT the chat feature. To activate chat it's $5 per device for the duration of the cruise. You do not need any Internet plans for the Hub app. 2 different things.

Yes I agree the hub app is free but I don't see on carnivals site where you can just pay $5 for the entire cruise to chat, not trying to start an argument I was under the impression you needed to purchase the social package to chat. Please direct me where I can find this because I would like to have that feature while I'm cruising. Thanks in advance.

Kitty9453 Posted January 14, 2018 #22 Share Posted January 14, 2018 This will be the first time my daughter (13) will have a cousin with her and I am giving them some freedom to roam the ship. The online chat is like texting? I would be able to check in with them.

The online chat is like texting? I would be able to check in with them. That is correct. They just need to keep the app running so the chats will come through. Otherwise they won't come through until you open the app again.(At least in my experience). - When I say this, I mean keep it running in the background, don't close it when you're done using it. You can still lock your screen and put it in your pocket.

originalgeek Posted January 16, 2018 #25 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Yep, like Teknoge3k said, no worries at all. The way I keep it straight in my head is that wifi plans are for communicating off the ship. HUB is only for people on the ship.
