MsSoCalCruiser Posted January 28, 2018 #126 Share Posted January 28, 2018 I’ve been on over 20 cruises and I’ve never even thought about using a lanyard but now after reading everyone of these posts, I think I need one, LOL. Of course it would have to be a lanyard with a ton of bling on it but then people would notice it… Oh the horror! 🤣 Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I can pick one to go with what I am wearing and at the same time be reminded of the great fun we had with 1of 4 and her lovely family on an extended cruise a few years ago. A friend and I bought the blingy ones once in the ship's store just for fun. They didn’t last long because the diamonds kept falling off.

Moriah Posted January 29, 2018 #139 Share Posted January 29, 2018 The blingier the lanyard the better..go b(l)ing or go home :P LOL, this is my thought exactly. I'm on a cruise to have fun, and the lanyard is fun! I have bought several of the blingy ones from the ships' shops, and a couple of them started losing their rhinestones during the cruise - they were always happy to exchange for a new one, and I'm now an expert in which blingy lanyards do NOT fall apart! :) They are made differently, and some hang on to the bling better than others. Hey some people are experts in various cruise cuisine specialties... I know my lanyards. Takes all kinds to make a cruise.
Homosassa Posted January 29, 2018 #140 Share Posted January 29, 2018 I wear a lanyard. And as far as being a newbie, I wish that the cards didn't often display your loyalty status by color or other indications (depends on the cruise line). I do not feel the need to display my loyalty status (high on several cruise lines as I have been cruising for over forty years) and think that claiming "rank" based on that status is gauche. 2LoveBikes Posted January 29, 2018 #141 Share Posted January 29, 2018 As long as they are not the new more sophisticated electronic ones issued on Konigsdam (etc), you can still get them punched. Always have mine punched on all older HAL ship cruises. I get it punched first thing at the front desk and put it on a wrist coil. I love the use of lanyards and here are the reasons why. Firstly, mine has a clear plastic sleeve which allows places for 2 cards. One for my ships card and the other for my govt photo ID when I leave the ship. (I know different strokes for different folks) 1) Less likely to lose. A card in your pocket, bathrobe can get misplaced. 2) Less likely to get de-magnetized with your phone or other electronics. 3) It easily slides out to open your room but it stays in without fear of falling out. 4) It is very convenient when getting on and off ship as the bar code reader scans easily without removing the card. 5) On the newer ships like Koningsdam and I believe Carnival Breeze I just tap the reader on my stateroom and it opens. No need to remove card. I bought my lanyard from Amazon. It is called a top loading ID badge holder and is sold by Specialist ID. They ID holders for 2 or 3 cards. I don't see it as claming rank but having access to spaces or events that are part of my cruise. How else would I show I am in a suite or have 12 stars or whatever--carry around a document folder with other cards to prove those?
MsSoCalCruiser Posted February 22, 2018 #144 Share Posted February 22, 2018 After 20 something cruises AND after reading this thread, I decided to use a lanyard for the first time. The color was teal and it was all bling. I just disembarked from a princess cruise today. My life has been changed forever, LOL. I loved not having to dig in a purse for my Cruise card. When I wanted a soda from my soda package, I just held up my card and they could see the sticker. Loved it!!! Dreams42Day Posted February 23, 2018 #146 Share Posted February 23, 2018 I use a lanyard but for the world of me, I can’t think of what nefarious activity I might be into. It is just so convenient during the day when I often don’t have a pocket. On my upcoming cruise I will have to be on the lookout for people giving me the evil eye because they suspect I am into something that is so evil it can’t be mentioned. In the evening I either use a small purse or let my husband put it in his pocket. Those who deserve it receive an envelope at the end of the cruise. LOL! I was also trying to figure out what evil activity goes along with wearing lanyards!!

Epicureangirl Posted February 24, 2018 #148 Share Posted February 24, 2018 I put it in my purse, I need my book, phone and a few other things so it might as well carry the card too.
