Ocho Rios for Nature Lovers: Which one should we choose?

I am a hiker, husband is a birder. We love to experience new cultures and completely immerse ourselves. However, we like go go away from the crowds instead of joining a huge excursion. I have it down to three options and am wondering if anyone has visited any of these and can give their feedback:

 

• Fern Gully. There is a $25 tour through Yardie Tours, but I could book elsewhere too. We could also book a taxi.
  
• Shaw Park Botanical Gardens: Although there are tours, we would take a taxi.
  
• Sun Valley Plantation: Yardie Tours has a trip for $59, but again, I am willing to book elsewhere or take a taxi there.
  

Has anyone visited any of these places?
