zdub86 Posted January 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2018 This will be our first cruise with our 4 year old son. Do we need to bring his birth certificate? Or does he not need anything to board the ship? Thanks!

Clarea Posted January 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2018 And if his last name on the birth certificate does not match yours, you may need additional documentation.
johnnyb78 Posted January 17, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2018 He needs a birth certificate or passport. Yep, I contacted customs and border security a week ago with the same question, as we are taking our kids on their first cruise this spring. As long as the wife and I have our proper documentation all the kids need is a birth certificate (original or notarized copy). Hung up with them and called royal to verify they didn't need anything over and above for them to board

This brings up an important question...what kind of documentation? My DIL has a son with a different last name, but was never married to the father (but he does carry his last name)......there is no contact with the father for years....what ppwk would be needed for him do you think (beyond birth certificate)? She would need a court order giving her sole custody if she doesn’t have a notarized letter from the father giving her permission to take him out of the country. They usually need some sort of notarized document from the parent allowing the child to be taken out of the country. In your sister's case, they need to know she is a parent, so she may need some legal court document. I'd contact the cruise line for this info.
