Bidding for an Upgrade?

Hi All! I'm less than 90 days away from my first cruise! We are cruising NCL and I just received an email yesterday inviting me to bid on an upgraded room. We booked an interior room and it is offering me a balcony room but I have to enter an amount I'm willing to pay... Here is the language from the email. Has anyone ever done this before? Is there a price I should try? What is the average accepted bid? HELP! =]

You are invited to participate in our Upgrade Advantage program, which gives you the opportunity to submit offers to upgrade your existing stateroom.

This exclusive offer is only available on a limited number of staterooms on your cruise.

NCL reserves the right to not accept any offer regardless of offer amount or stateroom availability. Availability of upgrades is limited and is made at the sole discretion of NCL. NCL reserves the right to accept any offer from the time it is submitted to the departure date and time.

Offers are based on double occupancy. Only the first and second passenger on the reservation will be charged.

Once your bid is accepted, the upgrade amount paid is final and non-refundable. The upgrade does not include any additional promotions. Current promotions on the reservation will not be altered.

NCL cannot guarantee a specific cabin number assignment within the upgraded category. Your cabin number will depend on space availability and cannot be changed.

For us, a balcony over an inside would certainly be worth a reasonable amount. Go on NCL site and see what a guaranteed balcony is listed for on your cruise. Then maybe try bidding half that amount if it's worth it to you. I really don't know though. All they can do is reject your offer.

if you are picky about room placement, do not do this. if you bid and tehy accept, you are assigned a room and its yours - no changing.

we intentionally did not bid on a minisuite on our recent Jewel sailing as the minisuites are all directly under the pool deck. no thanks. some Haven Spa suites on larger ships are directly under the fitness room and treadmills at all hours. no thanks. you have to look at the deck plans and where rooms are for all categories you wish to bid on. if there are any rooms in a category that you want to bid on that are not in a good location dont do it. the least desirable rooms will most likely be the ones assigned at bid.

On a 10/17 Jade cruise we bid $600 on a mini-suite upgrade from an ocean view. To our surprise we got mini-suite #11090. Initially we were concerned because this stateroom is under the Garden Café buffet, but turns out 11090 in under the carpeted table/sitting area. We never heard any noise from above, or elsewhere and couldn’t have been happier with the stateroom and the bidding process.
