Getting off at last port instead of completing cruise?

We're cruising from Rome and our last port is Naples. I'd love to see more of the area than we can in one day and am thinking of just taking our luggage and skipping the last night on the cruise. Has anyone ever done that? Are there any problems? Thanks for any input.

We have done this a few times in Europe... we requested a "trip deviation" in writing well in advance with the cruise line... got confirmation in writing before booking other arrangements, i.e., air, hotels etc.
