Casino Smoke

Recommended Posts

No smoking in casinos on any Royal ships out of Australia.

When I sail from the US on Royal I choose not to gamble because the smoke is so disgusting.

As a card player on my RCI cruises, I’m so thrilled that there’s no smoking on cruises out of AU. I’ll be on B2B cruises in March out of Sydney and look forward to NOT having to avoid the smoking lounge in the casino. While some do play, so many passengers just use it as a smoking lounge.

Yep, me too. I'd enjoy spending time (and money) in the casino, but I can't stand the smoke.

Another poster commented that s/he'd encountered courteous smokers who hold the cigarette on the other side, etc. -- doesn't matter. Smoke fills the air.

We just got off Freedom' date=' very heavy smoke in casino and on the pool deck on one side of the ship. The smoke was so heavy it went into the Photo Gallery and drifted up to the Promenade.[/quote']

This is exactly the scenario we had on FOS in Sept, 2016. That it spread to other areas is why I thought there might have been a ventilation issue.

Would love a non smoking casino - or even non smoking nights. Just returned from B2B on Oasis and 4 night Majesty. Casino smoke is horrible on both ships. It is not that players are smoking but rather that the casino is dedicated as the only indoor smoking area. Folks are sitting in groups around machines not playing, but simply smoking. Either you can't get the machine you want, or the smoke is overwhelming. Many gather around the entrance way and smoke making it uncomfortable for non smokers to even walk by. Before I get flamed, I will note that according to the smoking policy - this is actually fine. However - on more than one occasion, we saw a few light up in the non smoking areas on Oasis.

RCCL - if you read this - PLEASE consider some other indoor smoking venue other than the casino.

It is not as easy to say just use the non smoking areas. As a slot player, there are certain machines I like to play and not all are in the non smoking areas. On Majesty there are just 2 or 3 rows of machines in the non smoking area.

Smoke was Horrible, Horrible, Horrible; It was so thick on our clothing that Fabreeze didn't help.

Wish something could be done. We have noted it on all three past surveys, but I'm sure it won't matter. We like to gamble but have played a bit less because of the increase in smoking inside the casino. I feel badly for the casino staff.

We just got off of FOS. It was horrible. And occasionally there would be some type of announcement about the nonsmoking section. I never found that area. I even asked one of the casino workers where that area was and he said, “We don’t enforce it. People can smoke anyplace in here they want. “.

Casinos don't want to drive away their gamblers by restricting smoking.

I have been on several Celebrity cruises and the casino is packed every night.

As a non-smoker, I can spend more time in the casino on a Celebrity cruise because cigarette smoke tends to give me a headache. So technically, I will spend more money and time in the casino when it is smoke free than I do when there is smoke.

BUT .. I think most "gamblers", those who love to gamble and drop much more than I do at the casino, are more prone to be smokers so I would guess that is why casinos are usually not smoke free.

I just argued for both sides! ;p

I got off of NOS on Friday and spent every evening in the casino. I don't smoke, but didn't notice a lot of smoking. It really bothers me in Vegas casinos and South Florida casinos, but I felt the smokers on the ship were much more polite. Almost all stood up from the table to smoke except for one drunk guy who wasn't playing held a cigarette right next to my face while I played blackjack. I moved before he lit another one. Unfortunately, smoking and gambling often go hand in hand.

One real problem they have made in the casino is during the day when casino is open any smoker who wants a smoke goes in the casino so not to have to go to top decks. Have counted three or four around a ash tray container , not playing any machines, . Take the Cigar lounge and let them smoke there instead of the casino. Make the casino smoke free at least in the daylight times as usually more smokers than players.

We were on the Rhapsody TA last year and the casino was not only full of smoke but was cold as a meat locker. It was unpleasant just walking through to get to the evening show let alone actually spending time in there. We are not gamblers but might actually spend a little time in the casino if the environmental conditions were not so harsh!

On second thought, I guess it saves us some cash!

Not just during the day - but all the time. The casino is the only indoor smoking venue. The problem is not the player who happens to be smoking, but the smokers who are using the casino as the smoking lounge. In their defense - it IS the smoking lounge - RCCL has it listed as such.

Wow - I started this thread just to see if anyone had heard what I had. Now it looks like RCCL may actually have an issue they should be concerned about. As I've said, we'll be trying X in large part because of this. RCCL and X are bottom line one and the same so maybe they won't care corporately - but if enough people scream, maybe. Probably just kidding myself. :(

You will LOVE Celebrity. You loyalty status transfers, too - just sign up for the Captain's Club.

Did sign up for CC but only 22 points on RCCL so not much of an impact. We're in our 60s but still fairly new to cruising - had to get the kids to leave and not come back. :D

I love the idea of RCCL implementing a dedicated smoking lounge instead of it being the casino! I really like to gamble, but can't stand the haze in there. It sucks when I'm doing well at a table and someone sits down next to me and lights up. I don't want to move because I'm doing well, but can't stand to stay because of the stench. These days, less than 15% of Americans smoke. While that 15% should have the right to do as they wish, the other 85% should also be able to enjoy the casino as long as they want to.

Confession: I was a smoker for many years, but have been smoke free for close to 20 now. I do understand the smoker's desire/need to have a cigarette. I also used to think that non-smokers were just whiny, and it wasn't as bad as they said. Now I know how wrong I was! Dear smokers: you don't think the smell is that bad, but that's because you can no longer smell it. I can't even BELIEVE I used to walk around smelling like that! And, if you add up what you spend in a year on cigarettes, you'll probably find you can take more cruises or upgrade to suites if you quit.
