BostonM&MS Posted January 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2018 I will be sailing on the Veendam this June and curious to know what entertainment and activities are being offered. Thanks in advance :)

Rare albingirl Posted March 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2018 We sailed in the fall and there was a 3 piece band in the Ocean bar during happy hour and in the evening. There was trivia, and some enrichment speakers, although this was a long cruise. Honestly, there wasn't much going on in the way of entertainment. There were some unhappy campers about this fact. They did still have a library, but I don't know what people would do all day, on a sea day, if they didn't read. I saw some activity in the casino but we don't indulge. There are some movies in the theatre, but not many that appealed to me. Cooking shows but they repeated them 3 times over 49 days. I think Holland America needs a new entertainment director for this ship. Even the cruise director was rather distant and impersonal. We cruised for the ports of call; good thing we weren't cruising for the entertainment. Even the shows in the showroom were meh for the most part. Had an occasional good one but that was rare. I apologize for the sad response to the OP.

Rare albingirl Posted March 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Does Veendam have BBKing? A piano bar? No. But, I forgot to mention they had a pretty good band up in the Crow's Nest at 9pm most nights. Sometimes during happy hour too.

taxmantoo Posted March 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Does Veendam have BBKing? A piano bar? Not quite like the old Piano Bar on the Vista and Signature ships, but they do have The Mix which basically is more open but serves the same purpose. Sea Belle Posted March 12, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) I'm happy to hear there is still a combo in the Ocean Bar. What type music does the band in the Crow's Nest play in the evenings? We will be onboard in May and have our fingers crossed for some ballroom dance music. Rare albingirl Posted March 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 12, 2018 It's mostly light rock but you can give them a request and they try to honor it.
ATC Posted March 31, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2018 The Mix[piano bar] will have "Barry from Boston" in May and June. He is excellent. See his web site.

The last Live performance will be on April 11.

shipgeeks Posted June 30, 2018 #16 Share Posted June 30, 2018 We were aboard in April-May. We thought the music was very good. Trio in Ocean Bar, very danceable music and some jazz. Piano Bar, not our thing but very popular. Classical duo. Six piece Band in Crows Nest and at some shows. DJ in Crows Nest.
NYMary27959 Posted June 30, 2018 #17 Share Posted June 30, 2018 Thanks so much for your reply! I'm a big reader and packing books is always an issue. Knowing there is a library is a big plus. (I worked and am doing part time work at a library after retiring.) Thanks again. :)
