larasmom Posted December 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2005 it was the best $29 i ever spent. i just got back from my very first cruise and i am glad i opted to get the insurance. i was sick with a virus my entire 3 day cruise. i spent $909 on medical aid on the ship and it will be covered by my trip insurance. first they thought i had motion sickness so they gave me a shot and oral meds. the next morning i was still feeling ill and it turned out i did not have motion sickness that i indeed had a virus of some sort. i had an iv in which they injected 2 different meds. my blood pressure was elevated due to all my stress so they gave me meds to lower my blood pressure. they also gave me an iv filled with antibiotics. so.......let this be a lesson..............GET THE INSURANCE......you never know if you will need it or not. __________________
Happy ks Posted December 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2005 I'm so sorry to hear you were sick on your cruise :( . I hope you're feeling better now. We almost always buy insurance, the only time we don't is when we cruise locally and don't have to fly to our destination. But you're right, insurance is well worth it when you need it. TrentS Posted December 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2005 Sorry you were sick on your cruise larasmom, but your advice is excellent! You should ALWAYS buy trip insurance, whether you fly to the cruise or not!!! Not sure why that would be a deciding factor to the above poster, but you never know when you're going to get sick ON THE SHIP, or have an accident! Many American health insurance policies won't cover you out of the country. If yours doesn't, anything you have done on the ship or in another country will come out of your pocket... And if you need to be flown back to the US a Medivac flight can easily cost $25,000!
CaribbeanBound Posted December 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2005 I also agree --- get the insurance. We've been on 7 cruises, and fortunately have never needed the insurance we got, but I do not regret getting it. Here are 14 very important things to consider when buying travel insurance: *****
