Static events Posted March 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Hi all, Does anyone know if S class ships have the equivalent of vroom on RCCL? Vroom is basically high speed internet at sea if anyone doesn’t know. :D
ECCruise Posted March 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Having done both Xcelerate (Celebrity) and Voom (RCCL) a number of times, Celebrity's speed is faster than it used to be, without a doubt. But not as fast as Voom on the RCCL ships with the new upgrade. That is equivalent to what we used to get at home just a few years ago (e.g. 25+MPS down, 10+ MPS up). Andy Posted March 1, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2018 Hi all, Does anyone know if S class ships have the equivalent of vroom on RCCL? Vroom is basically high speed internet at sea if anyone doesn’t know. :D Hi Static events, Agree with everything ECCruise mentioned. Celebrity's internet is generally excellent, and MUCH faster than what it was a few years ago. However, it's not as fast as Voom on RCCL - which was simply amazing. Also, keep in mind that Celebrity offers so many promos these days, that Guests may have the opportunity to choose a complimentary internet package. On port days (as many folks are off the ship), it's not an issue. However, on Sea Days, there can be a noticeable difference in speed and reliability. Much of the time it's good enough... but during peak hours - there may be times when you will notice the difference. Hope this helps !

Rare keesar Posted March 2, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 2, 2018 On our recent cruise, cruisers were able to try it for free trial for one hour until 5 pm on day of departure. If you had a complimentary package as Elite cruisers, you had to deactivate it and then activate it after your trial minutes had expired at Guest Relations or in the Computer Center.. It is not as fast as what we have at home but a big improvement over a few years ago. It is much faster on port days and good for basic operations. I have been on a number of Oasis class ships and the internet was just like being at home. I was amazed that I was even able to live stream some major sporting events at sea. During a cruise on the Eclipse last month the internet was great for everything except live streaming, there was too much buffering to be enjoyable. Communicating with FaceTime was not a problem and provides a good link home if necessary.
TommyD3 Posted March 2, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Fast enough to stream youtube and Netflix.
Covepointcruiser Posted March 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2018 Fast enough to stream youtube and Netflix. It’s not that fast on a transatlantic perhaps because so many people are using up the bandwidth th stream videos.
WonderMan3 Posted March 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2018 It’s much, much better than it was last year. We had no speed or connectivity issues at all on our Silhouette cruise last month. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

phoenix_dream Posted March 5, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Have sailed and used internet on many Celebrity ships in recent years. Our experience with the enhanced internet is that it is certainly better than in years past, but not great by any definition. We have NEVER been able to stream anything successfully on any platform. DH tries to catch some of his favorite sports teams and it will go good for awhile, freeze up, frustrate the heck out of him for a few minutes, stream again for awhile, then freeze up and it goes on and on like that. We use Google Hangouts to call our son at home and sometimes it works good, and sometimes there is a delay as much as (literally - we timed it) 10 seconds or more in our conversations. Considering what they charge for it, I would expect better but am glad we have something.
