If you could get rid of one thing...

A lot of cruise ships these days are filled to the brim with activities, facilities and utilities but you do hear people complain that cruise ships have gone overboard with these things. Have you ever been on a cruise where you thought if they just removed this one thing, the whole experience would be better? Are there things cruise lines persist with that you wish they would drop already?

Sorry...can't find just one thing to put in Room 101

Continual selling of additional items.... drinks packages, wine tasting ,Sanctuary, Pay extra restaurants etc

Shore excursion staff who have no idea what they are talking about.

Waste paper..mostly linked to art auctions and spa offers.

Tender queues

Announcements you can't hear without opening cabin door.

People who push into lifts before others have exited.

Passengers who are rude to crew/ other passengers.

Sure there are more if I think about it for longer !!

Get rid of the rude passengers!

No BINGO announcements!

At call centers educate the reps with proper answers and how to say I don't know rather than making something up.

I would get rid of the nickel and dime culture cruise lines have gone to....the constant grab (and often pushy) to get more money out of your pocket.

If the atmosphere of the line you cruise with is not to your liking, maybe the one thing you can change would be to try removing you from the situation by trying different cruise lines. Perhaps the demographics and style they are targeting is not for you.

They are not all the same and not all have the amusement park activities and loud invasive announcements regarding the same. there are cruise lines focus on cruising in a more relaxing manner without all the entertaining distractions and ship board activities that you may find distasteful.

I would get rid of hard selling practices where someone approaches you while you are in the middle of having a meal. I do not like that at all. I don't mind booths being set up, but I do mind having a meal interrupted in order to try to sell something. I like sailing on RCL, but do not like being interrupted in the middle of a meal. I didn't experience this on the other lines.

Did Celebrity do away with art auctions and $10 t-shirts? Sign me up!

Maybe not but they don't seem to promote those activities so much with loud announcements, or have a rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, aqua theater, zip line, water slides, bumper cars, carousel, flow riders, iFly......:)

Not saying one is better than the other - only trying to indicate the different target demographics and cruising styles that different cruise lines have. There are differences and what appeals to one may not appeal to another, but IMO there is enough variety to appeal to different tastes.

True but I could buy two cruises instead of a Disney one :)

And there is one of the reasons the lower cost lines have casinos and art auctions. It brings in enough money from people who use those activities to help subsidize the lower cost paid for a cruise on those cruise lines.

Same with the alleged "nickle and diming" people complain about. If you want to avoid that, book a cruise on a more expensive cruise line and you will pay for those "nickle and dime" items whether you use them or not. I don't mind paying extra for what I consider "extra" stuff when I want it. If I don't want it, I don't pay for it. If it was included, I would have no choice but to pay for it even if I didn't want it.

The question was, what one thing would I get rid of. That was my answer. Nickel and diming is a mass market culture that I wish didn't exist. Not everyone can afford to cruise all inclusive luxury lines.

All of the extra paper advertising shops' date=' art auctions, spa services..... By the end of the cruise there's a huge stack of junk advertising and a slim stack with the daily schedules and port information.[/quote']

They just need to do away with the paper, period. All of that printing x how many cabins on your ship x 28 ships = a LOT of wasted paper each day.

And if you can't afford all inclusive luxury lines, then at least acknowledge that having to pay for any extras you may want is why the mass market lines are affordable to you. Without it, they would be all inclusive, and then you wouldn't be able to afford them. Choosing a cruise line because it is affordable and then complaining about what makes them affordable is a fools errand.
