Hotels on Palm Beach

Barcelo and Riu sell day passes. You are correct that all of the others will kick you out. However, all beaches are public . You can sit on your towel in the sand anywhere, but the chairs belong to the resorts. There are several vendors in that area that rent chairs and umbrellas.

You can walk up and rent chairs...not the "hotel" chairs, but there are vendors renting loungers and umbrellas. No "reservation" needed.

Probably better to do this at Eagle Beach. Palm Beach is the high rise area and while there are some vendors, the beach is pretty full with chairs from the hotels. There is a beach club between the Marriott Surf Club and the Holiday Inn but the name escapes me- it's a also a restaurant.

You are probably thinking of Moomba. In the past, most folks have felt that there were more chairs and umbrellas available on Palm Beach than Eagle.

Don't go to Palm Beach with the expectation that finding a chair/umbrella vendor is easy. It's not.

Supposedly the government is cracking down on vendors. We took a Carnival "Beach Express" excursion and ended up paying for our own taxi back b/c there were no chairs/umbrellas/restroom. Your best bet is do research on Eagle Beach.

There has been a recent crack down on unlicensed vendors along all of the beaches. This has been coming for a long time, and is well over due. In the past few weeks, the govt. has been removing chairs, umbrellas, etc. from vendors who have been on the beaches for quite a while, without proper permits. This is impacting both Palm and Eagle beaches, so there is going to be a noticeable difference in the amount of chairs available on both beaches. I know that this is bad for cruisers , but these vendors have been junking up the beaches for a long time.

Not good for tourism, at least for the cruise industry.

Intended or not, it made us feel unwelcome.

Most tourism in Aruba comes from their resort guests, with most resorts near capacity year round. Resort guests were fed up with getting up at the crack of dawn to claim their spot, to have vendors plop umbrellas and beach toys right in front of them, often almost completely blocking their view. Also, the legitimate vendors were very upset with these guys setting up around them. Aruba has always been known as a vacation destination instead of a cruise stop, but they are working on it by adding more bathrooms and accessible day beaches. There are several new ones that are coming along, but it's all being done on island time. If you were promised beach chairs as part of your excursion, I can see why you were upset . Unfortunately, you were there right when this all went down.

Arashi beach now has showers, chair rentals and a bar. It's also not very crowded because it's not a "hotel beach".

I have only been to Aruba on air/land trips, and as their primary source of tourism it makes sense that they want to satisfy that segment of the market first.

We were on Adventure of the Seas and we're in Aruba last Wednesday May 2nd. In the afternoon we went to the Holiday Inn on Palm Beach (we thought it much nicer than Eagle Beach) and Hotel Security in the Lobby told us we could use any lounger on the beach as long as it wasn't under the huts
