MurfAtHome Posted December 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2005 We will be traveling on RCL Splendour of the seas inside cabin 8079. I have to keep my insulin refrigerated. IS there a refrig. in this stateroom? do I need to notify RCL that I have syringes to dispose of?:(
mariemorgan Posted December 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2005 I don't think there are refridgerators in inside staterooms, I would call Royal Caribbean. I know the suites have refridgerators.
Queenie2 Posted December 30, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2005 don't know about the fridge, but if you call special needs then they will have one there for you if it is a medical issue. And yes you do have to notify them if you need a sharps container. Candy
Splinter Posted December 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2005 Are you sure you need to refrigerate your insulin? Most types of insulin do not require this...they only require not being left in hot environments. I am a nurse and work at a hospital and we don't refrigerate our insulin. Take your own sharps container with you, then take it to the ship's hospital to dispose of at the end of the trip. Be sure to carry your syringes and insulin with a copy of the prescription in your carry-on luggage. Never check medications.
muskrat897 Posted December 30, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2005 Check with your local Health Dept. Mine sells Sharps containers for $3.00, which is probably their cost. I return it to them when full for disposal.
CaptData Posted December 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 30, 2005 I would insure that you contact the Cruiseline speical Services and tell them all your needs including diet. When you get on board ask for a sharp's container and they will get one for you. I was on Mariner and they had a refig in the inside room I was in. Mine was a H/C type room. Ohestu Posted December 31, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2005 The Curise line will supply you with a sharps container to discard your used needles ( you need to let the purser know of your needs ). I am not sure abot the spendor of the seas, but the Adventure of the seas had a refrigeratory in all of the Balcony rooms. If it does not have a refrigeratory you can ask the cabin steward to provide ice foa small cooler. The best thing to do is ask the special needs department. ( There is a email address for that department on teh RCL website.
judyfssw Posted January 2, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2006 I think that the person who suggested calling the special needs department is absolutely correct. We did this with our mom and the ship provided the sharps container and disposed of it afterwards. Also, they supplied the refrigerator. If the container is not in your cabin, be sure to talk with your steward and then the purser. In any case, have a wonderful cruise.
cjankowski Posted January 12, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2006 my husband has MS and uses insulin that does need to be kept in a fridge. When wetraveled on Voyager we just had it kept by thein a special needs area and then when he needed we just called the number and they brought it within five mins of the call. Worked very well. RevSmith Posted February 19, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Your room steward will help you with refrigeration, you could bring a cooler, they will bring you ice daily. also as for a sharps container and put all bloody things in it daily. You should have no problems.
cruisedolly Posted March 27, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2006 My husband has MS and uses syringes that must be kept cold. Whe we don't a refrigerator in the room, we take it to the Medical Dept and they keep them for us
captainron Posted March 28, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 28, 2006 Hi Folks, Had an inside on the Explorer in Nov 04 and there was a mini fridge located to the right underneath the vanity (or left depending which way your stateroom is situated). Hope this helps. Ciao for now!!!
