Allure Helipad

Recommended Posts

Only by invitation, usually suite guests on a sailaway.

Does anyone know why access is allowed on some ships and not others. I know there was access when I was on Liberty and Navigator. But not on Oasis class.

Company decision, the rationale for which has not been publicly shared.

Well that is interesting information. Thanks for sharing, Bob! We plan on having a GS on Allure in 2020 and I was hoping to get up to the helipad. Just had our first time on Navigator a year ago.

I kind of figured that would be the answer. It is certainly not make or break for me at all...but I do enjoy being able to get up to the helipad at night.

Some are easier to get to than others and that maybe a factor in their decision. We've had a couple of suites on Allure and both times sail away on the helipad was while in Labadee.

I think it's more due to design than company decision. On Oasis Class, you can't access the helipad from the outdoor promenade like on Radiance, Voyager and Freedom Classes. They have to escort you through a crew area at the end of a cabin hallway to access it.

Come on, tell the truth. You like doing the Di Caprio/Winslet thing from 'Titanic'.

Weather permitting, on Oasis Class, there is full Suite and Pinnacle sail away on the Helipad. Both cruises was on our Labadee day.

I have been on the helipad three times. First was on the Radiance in Alaska as we "cruised" Hubbard Glacier. Second was on the Oasis as we sailed into Costa Maya. That was invitation only for Diamond and above. The third time was just last August on the Allure as we sailed away from Nassau. It was also by invitation only for suites guests. It truly is a neat experience.

As for why the helipad is not always accessible on all ships...I'm sure one reason is that they actually do sometimes use it for helicopters. The ship we were on one time (can't remember which ship) had a helicopter on the pad when we left Florida. While we were in Labadee, we saw it take off and fly over to an area just beyond the beach and disappeared into some trees as it apparently landed. It never returned to the ship by the time we sailed again. So, not sure what it was used for on that trip.

When we were on Explorer it was accessible for anyone, if you knew how to get there. Was VERY windy and COLD prob high 40's the day we went out, but it was Alaska...... Went out from Promenade deck all the way forward and up the stairs. Great views.

Currently on Oasis and the sail away was held on the suite sundeck instead of the helipad. First time we have not been invited onto the helipad. It is Captain’s discretion and Captain Claus seems to be in a safety mode this week. We had an unannounced kilo drill at sea yesterday and an another one (planned) today at Cozumel. The ship was inspected at Falmouth and is being inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard on Sunday. I’m not sure if Captain Claus is always like this but he has mentioned “safety” at least twice a day every time he makes an announcement. So perhaps that’s why there was no helipad party this time.

That being said, the helipad yoga class was on the Cruise Compass yesterday.
